Automatically go to Crouch when you can't prone

While not ideal, we all know the instances when you try to prone, but can't due to geometry bugs, or just not being able to fit.

I'd like to see as a (default) option, your avatar going to crouch if you cannot prone here. At least it'll make you a smaller target.

As an option, no problem. I doubt I would use it, I run and dive loads.
If I cant prone I would prefer to keep running not come to a stand still.

+1 Heh, I had the exact same thought. Additionally, you could still automatically go prone once the geometry allows it, so you don't have to click prone like a mad man...

If this is implemented, please make it optional. I don't like it when the game tries to "streamline" actions for me. The return-to-prone after crouch-sprinting feature is already annoying enough for me.

Actually thinking more on this, I'm gonna revise my original opinion and say it's maybe not a good idea, and here's why: when you crouch, your movement speed is also lower, making it even more annoying to find a spot where you can prone...

Yet crouching has a definite positive impact on your chances of not getting shot. IMO it far outweighs the speed decrease. That's why I switch to crouch-run when I'm moving and I hear bullets whizzing by... don't you?

Yes, but that's talking about sprinting. You wouldn't usually sprint when in a 'cannot prone' situation. And crouch walking is slow as hell...

Lets bug a mutator author to do this first. If its easy and popular to implement, it'll get white listed and/or official. Might be hard to make it optional, as that would require a new menu item.

Perhaps, but 90% of the time I "Cannot Prone" while I am being fired upon results in my death before I even decide to move away

I second the suggestion but it should be optional.

The message could be:

"You cannot prone here - but crouch!"

I still think they have to fix this, it's a big problem. However, if they really can't manage to fix something this critical fast enough, this temporary patch seems ok.

... and once crouched and slightly safer, you have a better chance to then move and properly go prone and survive.
