And not without reason, the lack of an 18+ rating is why a fair few games got banned from release in OZ.

As much as this decision is born out of reactionary BS to percived boogeymen, atleast this is finally a change of law that will benifit OZ gamers, rather than hurt them, so good luck to you Ozzies.

I can't even believe that such laws exist in the first place.

Good luck to all Australian gamers out there.

It all stemmed from the former Governor General of South Australia who was a hard core Christian fundie that continually blocked it. He's gone now so it looks like its going to happen, about damn time.

That censorship is just bizarre, as though less bodily fluids in the air somehow reduces the brutality of cutting zombies up with a chainsaw. I don't understand the thinking of these censors at all; their changes don't alter the acts of violence, only force you to use your imagination rather than seeing a bunch of blood.

Oh well, wonder how long the Germans are going to have to wait.

Think you're forgetting it's isn't just about censorship. The ratings classification simply doesn't meet the range of the content. Only the few games that get censored seem to make the press but what about the games that aren't but getting handed a lower rating than RTW?

Anyway, fixing the classification system to plug this hole so that content can be properly identified is obviously motivated by profit. If your stance is "think of the children" and your opponent takes ownership of that and makes a better argument, clearly the only path you're left with is a strawman.
AUS games classification reform was rejected on that basis.

I want to start my own country where any law abiding citizen can own a machine gun and there are no laws against violence in the media.
