Are grenades underpowered ?

I don't mind them as they are, but what I really want is a LOUDER sound. They're so damn quiet.

Is there a way of turning them up in an ini file or something?

They can never simulate real life explosive weapon impact in a game. irl, it's totally plausible to get hit in the eye by some shrapnel from a fragmentation grenade 50 meters away and die. In fact IRL standing 50 meters from a grenade explosion on flat ground would leave you ****ting your pants from all the shrapnel flying around you. With the artillery rounds its even worse. Big chunks of metal being launched upwards will kill you if they land on your head which is why soldiers wear helmets.

Agreed, a bloody firecracker is louder. Same goes for artillery, in RO1 artillery was louder than any other sound, now, all sounds are on the same level, be it a pistol bang or an artillery shell hitting the ground.

I don't really know how they function ingame, but last time i stood in a corridor, with a guy right next to me. And like 5 feet in front of us a grenade went off. My screen was blackened from suppression and my guy made noise like he was wounded, but i didn't die.
The guy next to me tough, fell dead like a brick.

Im also alittle dissapointed with the nades and arty. The damage is okay but I want better sound and you should get shaked atleast. BF3 have got the explosive feeling very well.

Problem in RO1 was with the grenade spam. You pretty much had to fight your way through doorways and everyone carrying 2 grenades cleared out the rooms fast.

This. Grenades in RO1 were a big problem, not so much that they were powerful but because you could throw them huge distances with unnerving accuracy - and you could time them so accurately as well.

They feel a lot more useful and valuable in RO2. I use them inside to clear rooms or trenches but they are less useful in the open. There's a lot less spam as well, I think they are perfect in RO2.

I would give them maybe 10% more ooomph and another 10% blast radius.

The big thing though is for them to adjust the physics so it doesn't react like a elastic band ball.

Agreed.

When I toss a grenade into a room I'm always worried to go in afterwards because I never hear it explode. The sound of a greande should block out almost all other sounds.

In RO1 nades are more powerfull, much more, it's one of the things that shoked me more in RO2 (this, and not being able to get down a tank when its heavily damaged and try to do something with my pistol)

Yes they're underpowered, but they beat nade spam hands down :cool:
I don't think nade spam would be much of a problem with Friendly Fire being turned on. I sparingly use grenades now because A. They are weak B. A team mate might be in the room or area I throw the nade and I do not wish to TK him.

Well, that is kind of the problem with realistic grenades and friendly fire, especially with "Defensive" grenades with a larger kill radius. If we had grenades with realistic kill zones, then TKs would be MUCH higher. Not only that, accidental suicides would go up as well.


Something I have noticed recently is grenades going off, and merely pushing players a bit.

In all, I think they could be a little better powered, and maybe a new team wound system to reduce TK penalties on grenades that harm opposing forces. It is annoying enough now to get slapped because someone else was dumb enough to watch you throw a grenade into a room, and then rush in after it trying to steal your kills.

Dear god please no, leave grenades alone, if anything reduce how many are issued. People are actually firing. their. weapons. in RO2. No more nade spam.

One of the biggest RO1 gameplay problems was and is nadespam.
Luckily, there is no nadespam in RO2. There WILL be nadespam in RO2 when the grenades get any more powerful.

Grenades are just right in RO2 imo.

This ..anyone that wants more powerful grenades go play ro1 for a few hours and you will change you mind lol.

Grenades are perfectly balanced in this game. Everyone has two of them, if they were any more effective they would become primary weapons.

Grenades were LETHAL in RO1 and they never became a problem unless you had fools for team mates. Throwing nades in RO1 willy-nilly usually resulted in team kills.

I agree. Greanades are too weak in any possible way. They have to small killing radius, detonation doesn't suppress as it should and they sound like a firecracker. Sometimes I can't hear explosion of grenade I just tossed.

I find it funny people say there is no nade spam. Last night I was in the Gullies on Apartments as Russian, looking up at the windows of the 3rd floor apartment building across the street....and I just saw streams of grenades coming out of the windows :p You expect to see two or even three, but I stopped counting after eight.

They all kept coming down into the Gully and I watched from the ledge as they blew up person, after person, after person, after person....

I'm no stranger to nade spam, but I wouldn't say it doesn't exist in RO2. It's just not as effective or it's more situational.
