I bought The Ball game few days a go,game runs smooth but I was curious to see at what FPS ir runs,FRAPS showed me it runs 95% of the time at 60FPS with ocassional dip to 58FPS.

I know my PC meets and passes the required HD,but if its so why the game is stuck at 60FPS?

I'm not concerned at all that this game runs at 60FPS,but its build on the same engine as RO2,which it brings question to me will RO2 be capped at 60FPS due to being build the same engine as The Ball?

My PC:
AMD 1090T x6 (hexa)
ATI 6870 x2 (duals)
Corsair 8GB DRAM
Win7 64bit

The Ball required specs:

  • OS: Windows XP SP2, Vista, or Windows 7
  • Processor: 2.0+ GHz or better (dual core recommended)
  • Memory: 1 GB (2 GB recommended)
  • Graphics: SM3 Compatible video card (GF6800 minimum - GF8800 or higher recommended)
  • DirectX

I hope fps cap is not forced like in ro1 had it capped 91, would be good if you could remove it if you want.

Its a shame ro1 with bots i have 200+ fps all the time but have to give up a half when in the multiplayer, and it feels alot more clunky. trust me, you can see the higher fps, no need to give me that eye stuff :)

Check out this post/thread.

Same goes for hos. You can easily unlock fps with the bSmoothframerate false and the option controlling maxsmoothedframerate.

Wait a sec... Those look like steam place holders

Anyway not sure if its capped, sometimes its only vsync doing it. Remember if you don't have a monitor over 60hz, you will not see more that 60fps no mater what.

I'm still hoping its not limited.

turn off vsync in the ball
I haven't seen Vsync option in the main menu, its not available to my knowledge.

It would be nice if turning off Vsync is available trough the game menu in RO2,that would be extremely nice!!!

And yes, I noticed RO1 is also capped :(

Can some dev explain us lil more about how will RO2 behave regarding this matter, will we have option to turn off Sync in the game main menu?

Thanks in advance :)

its in the ini file for the ball, regarding hos only TWI can say what options there are or will be.

Zetsumei In other games turning Vsync off raised FPS big time, but the game were made to run on much lower resolution than my LCD runs, idk if that makes any difference.

You say if my monitor refresh rate is 60hz there is nothing I can do to raise up FPS iven if I turn off vsync?

LCD resolution: 1680x1050 , refresh rate 60hz

Hey thanks for posting this mate, I have been wanting to unlock the 90fps cap for ages.

120FPS over 90 on a 120Hz monitor makes so much difference :)

I dont know where in the inis it is, but it shouldn't be hard to search through them for keywords like "sync", "framerate" and the like with text editor of your choice. Probably engine.ini or something like that. They might be in the installation folder of the game or somewhere in your user folder.

Try to find bsmoothframerate and disable that. Alternatively try to find maxsmoothedframerate or something named similiar and raise it from 61(?) to something higher. Make sure to check for vsync in the inis and disable that as well.
Then go check how the game runs for you. Keep in mind that fluctuating fps arent that good either. Best would be to find a good value where you can maintain a steady framerate. If you are unlucky it wont be much more than the 60fps default :)

Edit2: I tried all this stuff with ut3 to get an idea of how HoS could run on my machine (Phenom II 940 BE - 560ti). Unfortunately its fluctuating to much depending on where on a map I am. I can get 200+ on some places, while I can drop down to low 40's as well. Grafic settings to all high or all low doesn't make a difference at all and I really fear HoS will be even worse. Then think about big public servers... Even RO1, beeing on an old engine nowadays, can bring todays high-end computers to its knees with 50 players leningrad and even 32 players lyes krovy. For me personally its no fun to play with <=40fps in a huge cluster**** where especially there you would need a smooth game to survive in a really chaotic big battle.

e: @dcode, you are welcome m8.

Hey SolitarioSoldat you might aswell rename this thead to; My super computer fails because it's too advanced and i have more money than sense!

By the way; what MoBo are you running your overpriced hardware on?
I only ask because i'm looking to upgrade soon and your comp will be something i would consider.

p.s I'm not having a dig at you or your comp i'm just mucking around and having a bit of banter m8.

To remove the FPS cap in UE3 games I have left bsmoothframerate=enabled but changed the min to 0 and max to 999. This doesn't 'remove' the FPS cap, but even with my PC I'm not about to get 999 fps anytime soon.

I don't mind a fps cap, as long as it's above 70 or something.

I enjoy a fpscap without turning Vsync on.

I hate vsync, but I;d rather play at a steady 70 fps than have 150+ fps when things are quiet, but dipping to 70-80 when stuff heats up, such a dip is way more noticable than anything anyone might norice at a steady 70.

Mobo is ASUS crosshair III,when you build PC around AMD & ATI you dont brake the bank for the performance you are getting.

When I first builded I builded with minimum in mind, had the AMD 965 x4 and ATI 5770 just to get by and also have the taste of my first PC build since I have never builded PC before....

Later down the road while I knew that the quad core and the GPU can still be sold used at descent price I upgraded to the AMD 1090T and 2x 6870,so after I sold the old CPU and GPU I turned only spending $400 for the CPU and GPU's upgrade + I had more experience to play around with more expensive hardware, and on another note the 6870 is almost as strong as the 5870 so I got a good upgrade for the price.

And as for my PC being super computer.....LOL to that comment, super PC counts when you have $3000+ in ur hardware, mein is close to $1700...

When in the menus of most games, I get the highest fps. Also for some reason (again, in most games) that is when my cpu is being used the most and that is when I get my highest cpu temps... when the games aren't doing much of anything! Go figure
