It's VIRTUAL as the title of the article says.
And who in their right minds cares about what is going on in video games on subjects like this?

When a cop pepper sprays non-violent, defenceless citizens with impunity and the under-class are rioting on the streets of our cities, I think our society has a few more pressing issues than some kids playing COD.

Whilst we're debating the human rights of pixels on a screen, perhabs we should also explore the rights of furniture? Afterall, is it some kind of abuse or torture of our inanimate freinds if a heavy-set gentleman is seated in a sofa or chair?

Well, they're right. Breaking the Geneva convention is a crime!
We can add that to the list of other crimes we commit in video-games on a daily basis but no one calls them such and they're barely punished, such as breaking and entering, theft, fraud, forgery, impersonating officers, robbery, grand theft auto, assault, murder, and I'm sure a lot more depending on what game exactly.
The complaint is duly noted, can we move on now, and mow down friendly troops because they got us stuck in doorways?:p

Seriously though, how about going after the actual military for not giving a crap about the Geneva convention? I get that they have to broaden their awareness-spreading target audience a little and reach little 12 year-old Timmy somehow who doesn't read the newspapers but plays CoD on a daily basis, but now that that's done (great job!), how about someone goes after the military now?

Next thing you know PETA & Animal rights is going to come after us for shooting little bunnies in Skyrim. Lets not forget the various games that contain human cloning. You MONSTERS!

So what's up with Call of Duty and realism as apparently modern warfare involves tons of modern tacticool ninjas knifing eachone around while running like crazy madman with irregular, unstandardised eguipment with no military cohesion, training or knowledge of any kind of battledrills or so with nice blingbling weapons and hightech supergear w/ instant access to CHOPPAHS, expensive missiles and nonstop barrages of supply drops which all neatly behave as accurately compared to their real life counterpart as drunken spider does to riverdancing?

Even then since when knifing\stabbing enemy soldier in melee, ambush, improvised situation, specops operation or so is a war crime? Do bayonet charges count? Do bayonet wounds count, especially if it involves stabbing and shooting afterwards?

Speaking of warcrimes we accidentally killed a cow that AI guy was using as a cover in A2 coop last night. Oh snap.

So, every Actor ever pretty much has violated the rules of engagement. Cause that's pretty much the same thing. :X

If they're going to be Douchebags and crap on the gaming industry, they damn well better be equal opportunity and crap all over the movie market. OH WAIT, celebrities fund all their ****.

Damnit, i want free advertizement for my cause aswell, won't someone please think of the furniture!

The makers of dairy products and clothes pins should be made to champion my cause at their own expense, it is only right.

Under a rock.
War is brutal, uncivilized, ugly, painful, sad, and crazy. That is the way war is and should be waged. Trying to civilize something that is impossible to civilize is ridiculous.
