When I play Apartments, I'm usually Russian unless the Germans are out numbered... and when I play as Russian on Apartments I usually pick the Commander class because not many seem to bother using that class on Apartments it seems.

Now, usually when I play Russian on Apartments, we win more than we lose and I'm wondering if it's due to this tactic I use when starting to attack the first two caps past the bridges......

I usually head right to Cap A, order everybody to attack there first. I then pop both my smoke grenades to cover just before the bridge, the other on the bridge, then I run into the ammo resupply in the building to my right, grab two more smoke grenades and toss those two past the bridge and the other directly in the cap zone..... giving my team a lot of smoke covering their advance to Cap A and almost always we end up capping the objective very quickly. I then hold Cap A while the rest of my team runs to B and caps that, which both caps are usually taken within a couple of minutes and then the rest of the map is pretty quick and easy to take.

Is it a fair tactic for the Russian Commander to be able to use 4 smoke grenades to make it easier to take Cap A, or would it be considered a map exploit of some kind and thus, the ammo resupply should be moved somewhere else?

Keep in mind that Squad Leaders can also do this in order to get two smoke grenades right off the bat, instead of just one.

shouldnt be giving away secrets.

Well, yes... I was thinking that the moment I shared this idea, more people might start doing it and thus, I'd no longer be at an advantage

But I was also curious if others have noticed other players doing this and if they had any issues with it.

I'll still probably use this tactic regardless unless the ammo supply is moved to a further away location.... I think it's fair, but I can also see how some might think it's some sort of exploit.

The Germans can do the same thing since they have an ammo crate just inside their building between the two caps, but it doesn't make much sense for the German Commander to pop four smoke grenades to make their job even harder.

As a personal opinion, and someone who plays the German side most often, NO you are not exploiting anything at all.
I think its a good thing to try anything that the game can offer to get your team moving and cap an area.

We need more players like that.

I think it makes sense that a couple of big crates with various ordnance items would have a bunch of smoke grenades in there for a first time grab.
Also I think there is a time limit set, so its not even possible to infinitely renew ones ammo supply.

For me I have a habit of picking ammo from dead teammates, and sometimes I end up with like 26 stripper clips for the Kar98.
I don't think its an exploit, just exercising the principle of "you never have enough ammo"

No, not an exploit. I haven't done it myself on Apartments, because I actually wasn't aware there was an ammo dump in that position (I usually always strictly go through the basement into Apartments, and when that is capped to Park from there).

However, on Spartanovka I am usually squad leader, and often play axis, since they seem most often to have the fewer number of players for some reason. And when we get to the point where the town hall is to be capped, I most often use spawn 2 and go through the right flank, smoke the T-crossing to the right of the town hall and enter the lower floor where there is an ammo dump. The extra smoke grenade I toss on the left side of the town hall, thus usually giving smoke cover for the team on both sides of the town hall.

Sometimes I spawn left (if forced respawn before I get to choose spawn), and then I throw my smoke nade and immediately go to the ammo supply placed behind one of the small houses there and throw the other nade to widen the covered passage to town hall.

It is a good tactic, and it can often mean the difference between winning and losing on that map.

As the Axis Commander in Spartanovka I pretty abuse the crap out of weapon caches. Just make a giant chain smoke line all the way to the administration building from the church!

I think it's fine since instead of lending your fire power you're sitting there lobbing smoke grenades, it gives your class role a bit more importance and I suspect the game is balanced for that.

It's a legitament tactic. Every time on Apartments I prepare my F1 and toss both of them from behind the wall usualy resulting in a rather high % of atleast getting 1 enemy. (max was 4 for me from one time also for achievment) Cap A or B or wise versa for about 40+ team points and head to D picking up 2 more F1s' from the ammo box in the basement which have a lower % of killing one at the Potapova Park. I haven't done to Propaganda House in weeks I just seem to always go to D as it's harder to capture.

On German side, I usually order team to defend West Bridge, and I wait at the entrance of East Bridge. Timing is critical........but a few well lobbed nades usually slow up the Russians as well.

Knowing where the resupply points are is useful.

Have won a few times where we held them at the bridges.

These are not exploits but good use of available equipment and wise tactics.

Spamming at least 4 smoke grenades is really important for the commander on almost all attacking maps.

Whenever I play german commander on Grain Elevator you'll usually find me hanging out near the ammo resupply at the gatehouse, occassionally running out to dump more and more smoke to cover the crossing for my team. Totally fair tactic in my book.

You discovered a tactic, use it. Making your team win is all about tactics in RO/RO2, so I don't see what's wrong with this, the point of the round is to win and there you go, you found a nice way to lead your team to victory.

It's a fair tactic... mostly because why would you smoke the bridge? that just puts your own men at risk and leaves the germans in a better position. Never throw smoke where your team is advancing as it just means they're advancing blindly through smoke and into a bullet of a well entrenched enemy that can see. Throw smoke at the ground level windows and at the sandbags between the two points

Things that win this map for russian (in order of importance):

1. PPSH
2. Smoke
3. Getting too far (this should be addressed) in german territory, almost to spawn zone (I, as a german can't even go 5 meters from A or B towards russian spawn and Forbidden Area kicks in)

Smoke is a joke on this map. As OP said: 4 smoke nades as a Commander + 4-6 smokes as SL and everything is white. Shooting transformed to finding your way through smoke. I think is better if no resupply crates existed on this map.

Nothing wrong with it in my opinion. Of course, if I was the German then I might consider putting a LMG down at the other end of the road there and spraying fire into the smoke while the other troopers toss nades into the smoke from that row of buildings just past the bridge.

Good to see I'm not the only one who realized smoke grenades get resupplied at ammo dumps. It's a legitimate tactic and considering how a lot of players tend to just run in as if they were lemmings to their deaths, it's smart to pop your two initial smokes before resupplying and repeating. It helps your team get in the cap zone and can make for some rather high stress/tension moments with CQC. As Axis on this map, I tend to whip my smoke grenades towards the Russian side of the bridge / wall so that they can't see the German-occupied windows until they pass into one of our kill zones by Obj. A / B.

Nothing wrong with that tactic.

But i have mine. The only negative point is that nobody reads
during gaming my messages.

The written messages should be as in ROost, coloured....
