Wow! so the answer is yes, but it looks like crap.
Actually, a laptop with a decent graphics card would be able to run KF just fine. A netbook however... is designed for browsing the internet, nothing more. :p

You would be surprised what you can do with a 1.6 MHz proc, 1 go of ram and that intel Net-book graphics chip thing.

I was anyway.

I play my game on my laptop, too. An Intel965 graphic, with a little optimization, could run Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory at 30~40 fps, like I did.
And yes, frankly, a 1,6Ghz, 1 G RAM net book Win XP could run like 60~70% software (but not game) there are around. When Win XP just came out, my computer was 1,5GHz, 512 MB RAM and GeForce 2, and still be able to run whatever game I like (at that time, of course)

Half-Life and its mods DoD and CS run fine.
WarCraft3 anyone? I did not try anything UnrealTounement but it should work as its D3D & or OpenGL.
I cannot verify because one of my boys is using it at University to do his homework :p, well thats what he tells me anyway...

This october will bring us the newer generation PowerVR IGPs (GMA500 based, instead of GMA 950) for Intel Atom netbooks.
It will bring HW TCL (T&L) to the Atom, aswell as an integrated memory controller ready for DDR3.

Also AMD's Neo seems to have descent graphics hardware.

z5*0 cpus already have GMA500 video chipsets...

Which one is better? 500 < 950, so (I suppose) GMA 500 worse than GMA 950 ?

Like it says on the tin.

I've got my eye on this asus N10Jh or the N10Jb. Both come with G105M graphics and an Atom N280.

Here is a little writeup of its predecessor the N10Jc which has gotten pretty good reviews for its' gaming capabilities since it contains a 9300M.

The major holdup for these netbooks is the CPU. By adding these nice little on board graphics options KF gaming is certainly within reach.

I tested the N10Jc and N10Jb demo models in my local shop with a specific gaming benchmark application and the upgrade from Atom N270 > N280 and 9300M > G105M in the latter was clearly noticable in frame rendering in high intensity areas.

I'm so very nearly persuaded but want to try the real McCoy with a variety of games beforehand and am waiting for some indepth reviews on the N10Jh.

GMA950 has higher clock and double the memory bandwidth, but GMA500 uses dx10 and has hardware accelerations for HD video, which 950 doesnt. Which means that 500 can playback (apparently) 1080p/720p movies and the 950 can't. But if you wanna play simple games in windows xp, 950 is the better choice. Though I rather have HD support on a netbook then simple gaming support.

My eye is on Asus 1101HA btw, because of it's long battery live and HD playback.

Visuals don't really matter that much if you can get the game running otherwise reasonably.

Of course that link posted earlier in this thread referred only to solo mode and I was indeed using GMA booster aswell, but I did play solo mode for about 15 minutes without any real issues. Looking at large areas did cause some FPS problems or looking directly at some long pathways, but it did remain - once again - playable.

I should try it online someday actually to see if it's playable there aswell.

And before someone wonders why I tried that out, it's mainly because my main comp's motherboard apparently fried up (or harddrive, no clue actually) and I've been stuck with 9

just wait till there are some ION based netbooks and you will be able to play kf on them quite happily, especially if you get one with a dual core and have a nice big HDTV to plug into :)

(ION is nvidias new tiny little form factor platform which has hdmi out and decent graphics accel integrated)

Well, i'd like to keep it cheap. Duel core Atom, 9400m, isn't going to be below 600 for sure.. Then you could rather buy a regular laptop for 500, with even more power, but less battery life.
