The past couple weeks, I've been noticing a plethora of new names and lower honor-leveled players around. As a by product of this, I've definitely been noticing a significant drop as far as player skill goes in-games (i.e. team cohesion towards capping/holding objectives, player proficiency with weapons, and blue-on-blue "FF" action). Has anyone else been noticing this at all, too?

I'm glad we're getting a bit of fresh blood on RO2, but at the same time, I'm getting extremely frustrated that these young bloods are constantly TK'ing without doing the "is it friend-or-foe" check with uniforms/sprinting stance. In addition, winter maps are a nightmare because when playing Russians, these newer players don't seem to realize that the Ruskie Hero gets green amoeba camo in lieu of white winter camo like non-hero Ruskies; TKs, TKs everywhere!

Some would argue that Tking is an artistry of its own.
I did see the influx, but I think it's leveling off. It's due to the steam sale that's been going on.

I noticed the active player count was in the 1600s during the Christmas, now it seems around 1000-1200 each night.

And don't worry about the tking, after all we were all noobs once.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Xmas sale- was trying to get a few of my cheap buddies to pick-up the game at a good deal, but to no avail (just yet, anyhow). And yeah, of course we all had to start out somewhere.. it's just interesting for me to notice that the significant difference between the core group of players that have been playing since beta/release to the crowd that's surfacing now due to the sale. At one point earlier this morning, I noticed an impromptu firefight between two small groups of the same team; apparently one player fired on the other group whereupon the other group fired back- fifteen seconds and 6 TKs later, and they finally realized it was all a mistake.

It'd be nice if we could compile a guide on basic information/tactics so that newer players could actually get some useful info on the game, community, and how to generally play/function in-game as part of a team.

Sounds like those guys should be courtmarshalled lol
I do TK a bit because the lighting reflects off the uniform as the shade of the Soviet uniform some times. It freaks me out and I shoot at it, resulting in insta death.
Of course, when I shoot at a teammate, it's instant kill.

Yeah dude, definitely.

However, the one thing that annoys me more than the TKs would have to be all the "awesome" veterans that simply yell at the newbies (over...and over) instead of calmly coaching them on the nuances of the game. It's already hard enough for new people...so take it easy on them. Instead of simply shouting "Why aren't all you f***ing idiots getting in the cap?" repeatedly, perhaps we should be explaining why it's important and how it results in more points for them...or even, what a "cap" is (they MIGHT not know what it is despite such a thorough manual! or, even, if they are "inside the dotted line" they still might not be inside it...amongst many other issues). We all might have to take a hit on our W:L ratio...but we shouldn't cry ourselves to sleep over it.

The best players will attempt to assimilate others & reach team synergy, not ostracize them with VOIP instructions that might not make any sense to them right now -- they are just trying not to die 5 seconds after spawning and maybe get in 1 kill.

On the flip side, I'm always happy to answer questions such as ("OK, I'm an MG this round...where do I go? Tell me what to do!"). So, noobs don't be scared by the A-holes -- ask away. There's always good folks on most servers...such as the original poster of this thread, who I'm sure will answer your Qs.

To all the RO2 vets: motivate, don't denigrate.

I'm usually silent in RO2. I don't use voice chat. I some times use the teamchat to yell at them to get in the capzone, but not in a nasty way. But of course, nobody reads the teamchat.
I know what you're referring to, though. I don't remember having that bad of an experience playing RO. There's this dude in FJ2 server named bratsche or something that berates people and/or squad leaders for not doing something and it really got on my nerves.
But also, I think by having unlock-able features and level ups, it would also be hard for anyone to convince that moral victory of winning the battle is worth more than the personal, tangible victory of earning level ups and new weapons.

True that. But its harder to level up without Honor, harder to get Honor quickly without points, and harder to get points quickly without being in the cap-zone as much as possible...that's one potential lure...

(I hear ya, I try to keep the peeps on 2Fjg gellin' and not berating each other...sometimes unsuccessfully, haha.)

QFT. As you've probably noticed, I tend to respond to both general/specific questions by other players. The main reason I do this is because honestly, I like helping pass on a bit of knowledge and understanding on to others, but as a result I'm directly helping someone else understand something they didn't know about in regards to the game. When people ask specific questions on how to play a class "right" or when/where to use a certain weapon or grenade, they are showing forth effort that they want to get better at the game and that they want to play more effectively. This is something I really want to see more of because it says a lot about the community and also because it shows that the newer players want to get good at the game.

Rather than scream or berate the newer/less experienced players for things that we already know about (TK'ing, facing the wrong direction, camping a closet, etc.), it's a helluva lot smarter to simply help them out and to be a little more nurturing to them rather than purely abrasive. I know of more than a few people on the 2FJG server that only yell at the team they are on for things they are "not" doing right when instead they should be saying something more useful, such as "Many enemies on left flank, push the right flank into objective A; We're doing good, folks, keep it up!" And yes, TK's will inevitably happen (even with the veterans!), it's just becoming more prevalent.. again. I'm just trying to get re-used to being TK'd 3 out of every 4 deaths as that's what has been generally happening the past few nights.

Although it's sometimes annoying to watch the noobishness of new players, it's actually refreshing to see such an amount of new people play the game. It's good to see the game's value start being appreciated by people, and watch the comunity increase.

We were all noobs once, and not that long ago. I think we must support new players and explain them the basics of RO2, no one's born taught, and if new players slowly start understanding game mechanics, it will be great for the game to have new, fresh breed in the battlefield. :)

...if it helps I can TK you a few times so at least you know it's not all noobs...if that provides any solace or comfort.

I was on Station earlier, and I swear I thought I was playing RO:O again based on the positioning of four riflemen and a squad leader on the Axis team. The riflemen were all prone on & around the train tracks/hill on the right flank, and the squad leader was crouched a little behind them. I noticed their honor levels were around 13-27 and it seemed like they were terrified to move forward for fear of getting insta-killed while at the same time they had no idea where objectives were or where they were "expected" to go by their team. I think they slowly inched forward about 10m as a group before lockdown kicked in, very much confused and trying to get used to the game.

Also, one thing I think is still highly entertaining is when you come across a bunch of lower honor-ranked players who are seemingly working together in what looks like an impromptu formation, only to notice that they are all facing the wrong direction and/or are nearly at their own team's spawn. There's been more than a couple times where I've felt the need to say "Hey buddy, the battle is THAT way" because they were a high-value class like a Squad Leader. Also, if people are ever confused about locations of objectives/general layout of the map, please strongly recommend they hit 'T' for the tactical overlay or 'M' for the map. It has helped a number of these newer players out with simply re-orienting themselves towards the battle until they either memorize or learn enough about the maps to be able to find their own path to take in a match.

You know you still get honor points and achievements with TK kills. I don't know if this has been fixed but this doesn't deter the newbies from tking at all

Haha.. perhaps. Blaz (or was it Blaze?) and I nearly TK'd each other a grand total of about 5 times in 3 maps. I was trying to get my TT33 up to 25, and he was rocking Assault + MKB42; we kept turning corners and team wounding each other with the first few shots, bandage up, and go our separate ways. The only problem was that it consistently kept happening. On another note, even before the new players showed up, I've found that teammates consistently will TK you if you end up in enemy held objective windows; even if you warn them that you've just executed 9 of the enemy in Objective D on Barracks, you can step by a window and you'll get ventilated by multiple bolt action rifle rounds and machine gun fire. It makes me such a sad panda.

I once declared over the voice line that "I've cleared the building on the opposite side of Potapova Park, I'll be looking out the second floor windows in 10 seconds, please do not shoot me". Not exactly a terse or ambiguous line. I got just enough time looking out the window to get lined up on one of the several Germans in the Park before getting teamkilled. Thanks, buddy.

That guy, ugh. I just mute him whenever I get stuck on his team these days. I don't think I've ever heard him say anything useful, and he still hasn't quite grasped that "ignore the enemy and charge the cap point!" isn't always a good idea.

Always, always, always get TKd as Russian on roof of A in Grain Elevator even though I always announce "Friendlies on roof of A, don't shoot us off" several times. In one game 3 times in a row by three different team members.
Stalin was right! There are traitors and saboteurs everywhere!

There are rumours of an NKVD officer in the next patch.
But seriously, all of us should be forgiving for newcomers. I'm sure every single one of us had a rough start too. All we can do is don't worry, be happy because the injection of new players is something RO2 needed for a long time.

games like this always bring out the little emperors who like to criticize others loudly whilst ignoring their own contribution, or lack thereof, to the effort.

Well, I felt very noobish this weekend. I had three tk's in just one map round when I probably average just one a week.

Yes, I have noticed more new players just by the way they play, not paying attention to cap zones especially on defense. Still, this time I have to say the maturity level didn't seem to drop much if at all from what I usually see when a sale goes on.

So a thumbs up to the new guys :D
