Every time I try to switch KF to 32 bit color, it always switches back to 16 bit.

Win 7 64, ATi 4790, all setting maxed at 2560x1600 resolution.

Wrong part of the forums. Not helping you. Bloody....Grumble....

Just kidding. Update your drivers, verify game cache. I'll say that so the rest can say the smart things.

You mean you can't select it or that you can't run it after you have selected it? Either way you should be able to go into the killingfloor.ini file and directly change the color settings be setting:

Use16bitTextures=False
Use16bit=False

I can change the selection to 32bit and the game flashes and I get the "accept or cancel" buttons, but no matter which button I click, it goes back to 16bit. I'll try the ini settings. Thanks.

A 4790, eh? I recall reading about them being possible products, but I never actually saw them offered for sale. At least, not here in the States.

As [UIT] Akame mentions, check your killingfloor.ini file in the System folder and see what is set, there. (Also, check that this file isn't set as read-only, which doesn't seem possible since it is accepting your 2560 X 1600 resolution choice. Or is it? I mean, are you actually seeing 2560 X 1600 offered in the in-game video menu?)

Any issues in any other games? What happens when you drop the resolution to a lesser, 16:10-ratio resolution, such as 1680 X 1050 or 1440 X 900? If you're able to run 32-bit color without any problems at these lesser values, it just might be that with "all settings maxed at 2560x1600 resolution" you're simply exhausting video memory on the card, which is, presumably, 512Mb.

I suppose that explanation *might* be possible, given a 32-bit color depth, triple buffering, (which I think is enabled in the UT engine's Direct3D defaults), and all the various light map, z-buffer, vertex, texture, and other graphic-related data. Plus, high degrees of anti-aliasing can most definitely gobble-up a significant amount of video RAM. However, if this was what was taking place, I'd be more expecting the chosen map not to launch at all, rather than the engine falling back to a 16-bit color depth.

Thanks dude. Manually changing the ini file worked like a charm. Not sure I can tell the difference though. :)

Simple. One looks like crap and the other doesn't. :p

Actually you can manually change your KF resolution in both windowed and full screen mode via the killingfloor.ini under [WinDrv.WindowsClient]. You should see something like fullscreenviewportx and y.

On my home computer, the resolution is a ****ty 1280x1024, so I had to manually change it on that computer's KF settings to that.

Also, when you change your resolution settings to those you want, if they're not already defaulted in the selection, they will appear as another choice. (i.e. Default = 800x600, you change your res to appear 600x400, then another selection of 600x400 will appear)

I saw one in a Best Buy and I upgraded from an 8800GT. Very happy with the 4970.

I love my 30" Dell 3008WFP.

1 GB of DDR5.

What is weird is that I have dropped the resolution and I still couldn't change the bit depth to 32. Unusual, but the problem is fixed now.

Thanks everyone for the help and replies.
