Is the clan scene dead, is it just this game or is it the public gone console crazy? Back in the day (get me) we were turning people away for enlistment in all the FPS we were running, RO1 included and that was niche for its time. Take a look in the clan forum here, it's a wasteland. I've had not a single query and I've seen precious little happening with the other guys trying to recruit in there either. And what there is going on in there seems a pretty even split between proper clans and general gaming collectives that run anything from FPS to Eve Online.

Is it a general trend? Where did all the clans go? There used to be hundreds of them, all turning people away because there were thousands looking to get hooked up and no space for them all. Now there's a handful, and all going short from what I can see.

Is there any way to find out how well RO2 is selling? Has it flopped? Or is it really just too hard-core for today's average gamer?

I'm glad I held off renting a server, that would have been money down the drain. I'm disappointed...nay, crushed! The first proper decent FPS in bloody years and relatively nobody wants to know!

Anyway...discuss, or something. I'm going to crawl into a corner and sob. :(

Maybe because it's a new game and the newer players are just getting used to/into it. The RO1 players probably either have a clan or made up their mind not to join one. Does seem strange..

It's very strange. We had guys queuing up around the block from day one with RO1, never mind MoH and BF1942...the original DoD...glory days! I thought this was going to be so good, a veritable resurrection, and instead it's starting to feel like the final end of an era.

Alot of the old RO faithful have turned away from this game, unfortunately, though I can certainly see why.

Also, TWI hasn't really released any clan gaming tools yet to let clanners full customize their servers and stuff. I just don't think its a priority right now, though I'm sure they'll eventually release something for that.

All the old "RO faithful" could barely fill two RO1 servers of a weekend these last couple of years, so if they're calling this one crap they deserve SFA.

Oh well, I suppose one shouldn't care, it's 'only a game'. It did have the old ticker going for a while though.
Maybe it'll pick up once all the bugs are ironed out. It's not had any favours done for it being released in the state it is, though personally I've found it more than playable and extremely enjoyable.

I play in one of these gaming communities that is not a clan. I think perhaps the idea of 'clans' is going away a bit and being replaced by communities.

I mean why would someone ask(beg) you to be in your clan when there are plenty of mature gaming communities out there that anyone can join and be welcomed in without having to ask someone if they can please join? The only reason that remains imo is competitive gaming.

Maybe your way of doing things are just out of style? The whole clan thing also usually attracts people in the 13 to 18 year old demographic, it becomes a bit :p when you get older. Perhaps RO2 has older players on average, I would bet my money on it.

LOL. I'm 51. My clan's average age is probably low-mid 40s. Our youngest is 21. Our oldest is 62. So, by that standard, I doubt you are too old. LOL

As far as the clan scene, I think the disappointment of the past 3-4 years and the overall lack of support for the PC gamer (outside of a few companies like TWI which; as you stated was a niche crowd) has largely killed off the realism clan side of gaming. As the founder of a smallish, 3-year old realism clan, I can tell you that there have been stretches of time where our very continued existence was in question. When there is no game that gives you the ability to modify it to create the realism experience you desire, it is very difficult to grow a clan/community. Having personally come from the line of CoD games, it was easy to recruit and retain good members in the Cod/CoD:UO/CoD2 days. CoD4 kind of hurt a little though it had full mod/mapping support. But the modern setting put a lot of folks off in the realism community. CoD:WaW was pretty good to us as well but it never really caught on and had a relatively short shelf-life in terms of having fresh faces joining servers. And since then? It's been a wasteland of trying to find a game that works. Honestly for us, this is our last chance. And considering that I think the game is a bit too fast for the style of realism our group prefers, the mod tools can't be released soon enough for us to make some fundamental changes to the play style.

So, in short....I think there has been a dreadful glut of games that were helpful in growing clans and communities over the past few years. I am still very hopeful for this one.

In my opinion for a game to promote clans or group play it has to somehow offer a benefit or at least a motivation to wanting to work together. As it is right now, what good does it do to be in a clan environment? Most people are just doing their own thing trying to stay alive and the only kind of team work you need are people willing to forfeit a good k/d ratio or a better one to sacrifice their lives exposing themselves to capturing objectives. It's not like you can coordinate an attack and initiate it effectively...someone will get shot/picked off before you can even start since all the players can shoot extremely well and take you out on your way to objectives.

Also this is a popular game among the realism crowd, and for those interested in that kind of arena aren't really getting excited enough to make that kind of commitment.

Not to mention anyone new coming into the game, is fighting with the controls, trying to figure everything out, like who's launching arty, how do you get into a tank...I think due to a lack of a guide or manual many people are a little lost and will get frustrated easily in the game. So you need a lot of people to form large communities and clans, and that's something that is debatable whether the new people will want to learn the game and the realism folks not really caring for the more simplistic features...it's kind of not rubbing either person on each side the fence the right way. Although some people will claim everything is perfect and great.

Nobody makes games where you can actually play with your clan. Auto squad this, team balancing that. And if you happen to actually team with your mates you get yelled at for stacking. It's not the clans, it's the damn games. I was tactical mohaa, vcod, uo, ro...these new games? pffffft. just a r&g fest plain and simple. with unlocks and stats it just makes the individual more interested in doing what he needs to do to increase ranks. teamwork is a dying trend. the world has ADD and sucks. im going to bed now...i've pissed myself off.

Well, I think it's a bit early, as some have said before. The oldies are already in clans, or have no interest in clans, and the new guys need to get comnfortable with the game first before being interested in competitive play. having said that, on ROLadder there are 14 teams in the European countdown ladder, 13 in territory and 5 on firefight. Interest in the USA seems to be a tad less, with only 3 teams on the territory ladder. Still, there are 32 teams signed up for the opening cup, and a handful of free players on the market...

I told my former clan mates when CoD 4 came out, that universal rankings and stats would destroy the gaming community as it was. No one seems to care about actually winning the match, just ranking up and unlocks. They didn't believe me. Not one of them is in a clan any longer....

I think they all joined the 29th, that clan is pretty big and I appreciated their support for Darkest hour and ROOST. If I would join a clan it would be them.

They've all moved over to their "esports". That the cool things to do now.

This ^

Although nothing is stopping them from coming back from e-sports either. I was/am considered a semi-professional in a few games but i still came back to "clan scene" for RO2.

I havent read all the posts here but in no way is the clan interest dead

The [PARA] Regiment have moved to this game in force, we have been going 4 years, range in ages from 18 to 65.

Have 2 servers running and have been well populated since the beta, so i think there is a great future for this game once all the bugs are ironed out

I also know a lot of TR clans we have had friendships with being successful also with this game

The problem with the game right now is that it is not ready for full on clan warfare. I believe I can speak for both realism and competitive scenes here on this. By this I mean the game has a lot of bugs that need to be sorted out and the mutators we vouched for.

My clan has had scrims the past few nights and more to come and the consistent problem is that, people crash during the game and/or lose sound. This means the game has to be paused or restarted most of the time. As well as servers having weird lagg, even when you are using a great server hosted by a premiere company. Some of this may be a PB problem as well, still testing variables on this.

Also, they have not released the mutators again as stated, which means we have to use a lobby and then game countdown for everyone to saddle up and get ready to play.

Once some of the major issues are fixed and the clan features are given to us for our servers, the scene will most likely pick up.

Also my clan: {CoreNA} if ya hardcore enough ;)
