Hey guys, seems to be one of the ongoing things...

Been trying to play this game for over a year now since it messed up and still can't.

I've tried reinstalling, game, verifying cache, updating video card drivers... and a whole bunch of other stuff.

This is the message I get when I try to play.

Build RedOrchestra_Build_[2005-11-27_10.48]

OS: Windows NT 6.0 (Build: 6000)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 2395 MHz with 2045MB RAM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS (7519)

Engine C++/UnrealScript class size mismatch

History: VerifyClasses <- UGameEngine::LoadMap <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Free

Now I have heard through the grapevine that NVIDIA normally has a bad track record with Unreal engine based games. I am not for sure if that is the truth or not. But, anyhow, I love this game and am still wanting to play pretty bad

Is my video card any count? It seems to work really well. I thought maybe if I uninstalled my video card and reinstalled it it may help...

anyone got any suggestions?

I appreciate it

The 7900gs is a good video card, more than able to run RO.
Are other games working fine ?

A clean driver install is recommended.

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745

Read the "readme", its easy to use.

DirectX update...
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/directx/aa937788.aspx

CrapCleaner is very useful for keeping things clean.
Go google.
What you may try is to delete RO using Steam, and anything that is left over by hand, (in the Steam Common folder).
Then run the issues tool that comes with CrapCleaner, look for anything related to the game.

The trouble between Nvidia and the UnreaEnginel is pretty much limited to the 8X series.
Good luck.

Hmm, tried all those things and none seemed to work.

:-(

Oh well, I am almost to the point of just reformatting my PC and starting from scratch just so I can play this game.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to save all the important stuff.

Install all to CD's??

Looks like a bad engine file to me. Try deleting your clientregistry.blob and ro/system file at the same time and see if it will download you a fresh one from a different content server.

I appreciate all the advice... I have done both of these as well.

It was all sort of random. It happened bouta year ago. All of a sudden it would not work and this is where we have been since then.

Y'all think if I used XP instead of vista it might work? Does vista seem to run poorly with RO?

Have not heard of vista causing a specific problem with RO like this no.

a complete whipeout of everything fixes most issues. Concerning that loads of people with your vidcard can run things ok, increases the chances that it would fix your issue. Try a clean installment of windows with only drivers and crap and RO. Then try RO once, then install other programs :p.

Then you know for sure that it alteast can work on your system.

So just to make sure I am on the same page... reformat or reinstall or whatever you want to call it. Then, once I have the necessary drivers install RO and try it. Then, go ahead with my other programs?

Yes generally that should work :p.
Although its quite a lot for just ro.

Have you tried uninstalling the game/steam, defragment your harddisc and reinstalling the game and steam?

Yes, I have tried all these things, multiple times.

Ok, now that I am thinking bout it... bout a year ago I attempted to install a set of American Conquest games on my PC. They did not work.

I do know I tried to play RO shortly after that. I am not for sure if those games messed up my RO or not. I just now remembered that ;-)

But, I have uninstalled everything I could find of those American Conquest games.

I have searched and searched for anything else that could have something to do with hem but have found nothing.

Think those games messed up some drivers somewhere???

If you have deleted Steam/RO, run the CC registry tool to take out any left -overs. installed and used Driver Cleaner Pro correctly updated your DirectX and drivers and it still refuses to work, that's iznogood :p...

Are you launching from a desktop link ?

When I google this (which seems to be the cause)...

Engine C++/UnrealScript class size mismatch

there is a whole bunch of results (including this very thread ( ah! fame at last, lol).
Do you have full admin rights,(Vista) seems to pop up regularly.

Also something about Net.Framework 2 gets mentioned.
I have 1 & 2 on my XP install.
Do you have it ?

Just shooting in the dark!

Try installing Americas Army, just to see if it works.

No my 7900gs lost its place to a 8800gt a while ago but fear not, it (the 7900gs) is running RO/COD4/Assassins Creed, with Vista on a regular basis...

Yea AA works alright... play it from time to time.
which cards are better than a 7900 without paying $400 for?

anyway, I have googled it too and am not really computer savvy when it comes to fixing major bugs. I am mentally tired thinking bout it.

I'll look more into what you guys have mentioned.

thanks

Just remember when you format and start over to get everything from Windows Update installed, including SP3. You will have to go out and get the latest version of DirectX because that isn't part of WU or SP3. Also make sure you get the proper drivers for your card. Many people always download the latest and greatest drivers from Nvidia but sometimes the driver doesn't support older cards but the driver will still install, be careful of this.

Nvidia has changed up their site and fixed up many of their drivers so you should properly get the right drivers when searching their site for the latest for your card and OS.

You can also download and install Visual Studio C++ 2005 redistribution and Visual Studio 2008 C++ redistribution. These items are similar to .NET and sometimes can help certain items work properly, these also do not come down from Windows Update or SP3.

I think once you have it all redone, you can also disable indexing service and turn off System Restore on all drives. These have been known to cause some lag in some games etc. You should be good to go once all these things are met and done. Good Luck.

plz if you recommend vidcards recommend them with knowledge of the pricing of the current generation and performance ;), i know you try to help but the 8800 as it is, is already an outdated piece. The 8800gt had its moment of prime and was the best recommendation for a long time but has now been overtaken in performance/dollar scenario. both by nvidia and ati offerings.

the 9800gt is pretty much thesame base as 8800gt and still better and better priced actually. 8800gt was great at its release but is not the best card to recommend when looking for certain prices is now:

GeForce GTX280 - $429.99 ($374.99 AR)
Radeon HD4870 - $270.00 ($249.99 AR)
GeForce GTX260 - $254.99 ($234.99 AR)
Radeon HD4850 - $174.99 ($154.99 AR)
GeForce 9800GT - $129.99 ($124.99 AR)
GeForce 9600GT - $104.99 ($89.99 AR)
GeForce 9600GSO - $89.99 ($74.99 AR)
GeForce 9500GT - $69.99 ($54.99 AR)

(leaving out x2 gx2 crossfire and sli solutions since that is pretty much the same performance as buying 2 vidcards and putting them in sli anyway. Where the gx2 or x2 solutions usually cost more than 2 of the single vidcards and actually perform less). Generally all vidcards are pretty much nicely priced beside the GTX280 which is heavily overpriced, but its the fastest single core GPU (although in this case i might recomend going for double gpu solution from ati or nvidia instead) from one of the cheaper cards.

Trying fixes never hurts but basically generally if you don't mind reformatting your computer its usually the fastest solution to most big problems you can get with your computer since it takes like 4 hours at most to install windows, windows updates, drivers + directx, + ro and after that your most commonly used programs etc.

My advice on a upgrade would be the ATI Radeon HD4850 it is a excellent performing card .
There is a stuttering issue with newer Nvidia Cards and the ut2004 engine so i would avoid those if you play a lot of RO.

since release 174+ those issues have primarily been resolved.
Although i personally prefer Ati cards too. 4850 and 4870 got great bang for buck.
