I think they would release matched pairs....
p3 J/L vs KV1s maybe?
a KV1e or later b/c cast turret might be a bit too armoured for the panzer.... kinda like the desision in RO i guess.

the p4 long was an obvious choice really to balance a 76mm russ tank, but before that you have a balance problem with the russ use of dual purpose guns vs the ger specialised ones.
So if you need a p3N/p4F1 with an p3 J (L60) to cover both inf support and AT, against 2x kv1 or t34 the germans may have a hard time.

I've always thought that implementing evenly matched yet realistic tanks for stalingrad - particularly in small numbers for CA maps - will inherently be a tough job.

If you went the spg route then matching the short stug is tricky - i don't beieve the su122 saw much of stalingrad unfortunately, leaving the su 76 which would have a big advantage meeting an L24 stug.
However, put in a stug F or later with the same L42 as the p4g and it's the russian that will get hurt badly.

morg is correct BT-7 vs PIII short 50 may work ok, and as i lover of early tanks i'd welcome them - but i think many ppl will yearn for the heavier-hitting stuff as was the trend in ROost

I don't think the Tiger was fielded in Stalingrad. Of course, maybe for "Elite Tankers."

During the later Russian offensives and German withdrawals after the collapse of Stalingrad they were used in small numbers (s.H.Pz.Abt. 503 was one batallion that I know was issued some), but that was more around Kharkov to the North West.

I agree with dodbager, implementing evenly matched and realistic tanks for stalingrad will be difficult. The Tiger I for example had absolutely no equal at the time. It will also be difficult to please those who liked the medium/heavy tank combat that was prominent in RO, because it just wasn't as commonplace yet.

Anyway, looking forwards to more tank info!

The Tiger I was never in Stalingrad. Panzer IV ausf F1 and F2 were there, and of course the Panzer III ausf H and J, but Panzer IIs were useless by that time. The Russians mainly had T-34/76s (which of course there were different models) and probably an assortment of earlier lighter tanks such as Bt-7, T-26 ect... Unless the TWI has made one map over a battle in mid '44 or '45 one would not see a T-34/85 or an IS-2. Although from looking at the number of fans that seem to just love the IS-2 it looks like making just one or two late war maps would be nice, but I'm not going to complain the game looks flipping awesome!
Don't forget about the assault guns such as the StuG III ausf G and Russian Su-76 just to name a few.

Just read it, I know i'm a little late. :D
But damn ya'll! I'm so exited about this game, last time something like this happened was when GTA San Andreas was about to release xD
I wish I had a time machine so I could move myself further to the releasedate.
(i'm even going to buy a new PC(a beast) for this game!)
