Now that my sytem is updated I can no longer connect thru steam - waaaaah!!!!! - I get into the game - can see all the servers and that but just time out on connection 
Rebooted, validated tried everything and no dice - please don't tell me I have to reinstall anything.

Ok - I made the setting False (it was True) in my steam account folder -but still no dice with the connection - I get "an unknown Steam error is preventing you from connecting tio this server" do I change the common folder's one?
Ok - worked like magic (i.e. magic = technology I cannot understand)
Only downside is that the server which had 31/32 playing my new beta has now changed maps

I am finding that after I ran the update and tried out the new file system everything is seriously, s-l-o-w.
I'm talking 3-4 minutes to load the game up, a 30-60 second delay whenever the menu changes screen (ie. if you click multiplayer, practice, configuration etc it hangs!) and just then with my watch I clocked the game as taking 6 minutes to load a practice map (pre this update it'd take me 45 seconds!). Previously my PC had no problems at all with long load times or anything like this, now it is like an unresponsive slow mess! Also in game I was getting random patches of jittery framerate behaviour!
Before you ask, no I don't have the command line switches on and never have, and no I am not running anything in the background.
I am going to do a reboot and see what happens
