First off, I would like to welcome all the new members to our growing forum. We here at Tripwire look forward to your contributions to our community in the future.

Now, to the rest of you. My first act as President of Tripwire will be to kill the whole lot of you, and burn your forums to cinders... (not really)! It has come to our attention that our forums have gone from a place of open discussion to being seen as a place where new comers aren't welcome and are treated by some with frank hostility. From this point on, this will stop, and here is what I plan to do about it.

1) The moderators will be instructed to close threads on subjects already being discussed with a link to the thread already in progress. This has occasionally been a failing on their part. It will be addressed immediately. However keep in mind that our moderators are very busy and may not have time to post more than that in any given thread. If you have a question for them please open a dialog with them via PM.

2) We at Tripwire are very open in our communications with our community and I have no plans to change this. However what will change is our stance on non constructive criticism. We will treat the community and the members thereof with respect. The failure of members of the community to do the same will result in their forum account access being temporarily or permanently suspended. The use of our forums is a privilege and not a right. If you have any questions about a rule or the future content of a post, once again please feel free to ask a moderator for their input.

3) The Rules. Read them... again. We have rules that cover just about everything. Not knowing them is not an excuse.

4) In regard to the third point, I will be instructing the moderators to take a more heavy hand on community regulars and long timers that mistreat new users. Your role if you wish to assume it, is to guide, discuss their points, and constructively criticize the new users, not bash them. If you don't feel you can take on that role, do not interact with them.

Now to be clear, not all of our members are behaving this way. In fact, the majority of you are just fine and I would like to thank you for your continued input on our forums. However, it never hurts to remember why we are all here. We like video games. Our opinions on them will all be different and we might never see eye to eye on issues, but we can be civil about it. If you see a trouble making user, the correct response is to inform a moderator in IRC or use the report post functionality of these forums.

Thank you for your time and happy gaming to all (except you Bobdog).

I was thinking of writing something like this a few days ago, chances are is that mine would have been a lot more verbose and less to the point. I completely agree with the OP. Could you actually change the text colour of the title of this thread, I think many people ( myself included ) ignore stickied posts ( you get used to there being a few static stickies ).

When I first arrived here I asked a bunch of questions that would probably get me flamed here now for asking them again. I was accepted by the community and IIRC it was one of the TWI staff that responded within 45 minutes of my post answering all of my questions. That's what winning hearts and minds is there! From that day onward I have mentioned TWI or their games to many friends whenever we discuss games, and have been responsible for many copies of RO and KF being sold. Why do I mention that? Because with all of us bickering about 'proper marketing' and 'ad campaigns' I think the heart of the success so far has been the community welcoming new people, who then go out and spread the message ( word of mouth advertising ). we were all new once, even if that was in 04,05,06 or 07; how long would you have stayed if someone cussed your *** out on the first day? And how many friends have you told about TWI, and how many have they in turn told about TWI? ( recurse infinitely here please)

( I could write more but I'm tired and stumbling over my own words, so I'll leave it there.... )

This is strange, I am new but felt no unwelcoming spirit. Did I miss some sarcasm or something? I know I've spread word of RO2 to at least 6 friends and most of them are at least intrigued.

Its primarily in the ideas and suggestion forum ;). Some older forum members get agitated by some of the suggestions by new people.

Been lurking for a while in here, But yea the bolt counters seem to post the most and they are not the most forgiving bunch. Remember even if your a history buff this game needs to be fun for a wider range of audience this time. We all want to see Tripwire have a AAA hit and game of the year, Right?

Well I believe this should be a turning point where some people finally knock some sense in their heads and try to give some ground when discussing, because lets face it the easiest way to communicate for most is by talking not writing. And I think that every new RO fan should find the same welcoming forum I found about two years ago when I discovered this awesome game and a bunch of people that are more demanding (quality wise) than the average gamer.

Also I want to add that lately some old timers that I used to "respect" and read through their posts carefully to fully understand their point have turned quite impatient with a touch of fanboism. Yes, more and more newcomers are coming therefore you are not going to discuss only with people who care for RO long enough to follow it for 5 years or more, but with people coming from other completely different games that nevertheless took the time to create an account on a forum of a game not released and without even a proper gameplay video. So of course they will have some very alienating ways of thinking, but no need to bash them and downvote (damn this system...) them as soon as their name appears.

Thats for me at least, now I'll go back to lurking and maybe post again in a week or so :p

I hope this new stance encompasses all people and their suggestions evenly including the DH mod and their supporters, as well as people whom want to historically discuss items and do not support nor want the IS-2 (or similar) joke rubbish to derail the discussion. As I've seen both groups mentioned get stomped on by the usual suspects disagreeing is one thing trolling or flaming is another.

I've been thinking about what John Gibson said for a few days now. That this is becoming the club nobody want to be part of, and the more I think about it, the more I agree.
