When you are in a tank and its about to blow up, its high time you start climbing out of the tank. But for some reason you cant get out of the tank. I wonder if you guys can make it so you can climb out of the tank because if the tank is about to blow up you cant even get out of it.

From various old footage I've seen, by the time crew members are crawling out of a damage tank they're often missing limbs/on fire.

There's plenty of WW2 stories of 1 or 2 men out of 5 making it out of an attack alive.

I just played Ro1 on Berezina and it was fine when people were allowed to climb out. 75% of the time the entire crew goes down with the tank... and on the rare occasion everyone does try and get away from the tank exploding, usually 1 person makes it out alive at most.

A good tank commander goes down with his tank.

The only time it makes sense is when the tracks and guns are kaput.

I suppose when you skuttle you have to imagine you have gotten out of the tank and made it back safely to a new tank....i think that approach helps.

Well what would be cool is an animation of players getting out of the tank, if you run back to spawn you could get a new tank with out taking away from your resupply.

Tankers used to get pistols. They could do that again.

The last thing I wanna do as a tanker:

being on Fallen fighters and running around with a bloody pistol!

being able to climb out of a tank with missing limb or or fire would be nice for immersion but would kill gameplay.

(and it would get old very fast)

A good tank commander has more value than the tank itself.

I'd rather have you die and get a new tank, taking potshots with your pistol is just as useless as all riflemen on 200 meters.

EDIT: your avatar/signature is giving little kids a seizure.

Standart T-34 had PPSh and couple of grenades for crew to defend itself and every crew member had a pistol as a personal weapon. You can also yank out DP29. I think it was the same (MP-40 + grenades) in german tanks.

What happens to the old tank? Does it blow up once you step out of it?

currently you just blow up and whoever hit you last gets the kill for it, then you respawn in a new tank. Honestly, I like the idea of the scuttle option but not that you instantly respawn. I kinda like the idea that being able to bail out of the tank and head back to spawn to get a new tank would be pretty cool, or even implement a 'repar tank' ability like in arma 2. in case your not familiar with arma 2 the repair function in that game allows you to repair your vehicle but at the expense of leaving yourself extremely vulnerable for like 15 secs while you do the repair. As it is right now a tank can only repair at supply depots and only if they can even make it to the depot sans working tracks and engine.

Letting tank crew bail is pointless because they are tankers. By playing the infantry role, they are denying their team a tank.

This. If I escaped a tank explosion I'd probably end up getting myself killed within 30 seconds to respawn in a new tank.
