[Game] Alien Assault - Survey

Ok, I am currently Developing a RO2 Mini Mod by myself with the Unreal Development Kit September build 2009 Beta.

I just have a Nagging question for everyone here.

Would you like to see this as a FREE stand alone game or a Mod?

I am considering doing this as a FREE standalone game BUT i would like some opinion.

About Alien Assault -

What is Alien Assault?
Alien Assault is a game of mankind's resistance of an alien invasion of Earth. The Aim of Alien Assault is to be a Multi player Mini Mod for Red Orchestra 2 Heroes of Stalingrad. (or a standalone game)

What is Alien Assault Game play going to be like?

Game play Summary -

Battlefield 1942 meets Destroy all Humans in a Multi player environment with Basis on UFO Conspiracy theory and real world events.

Features -

Tight Objective Based Game play - Similar to a Rush or Push Game mode.

Infantry and Vehicle Combat - Fight on the ground, in the air, and at sea

Unique Maps - Ranging from the Small Rural towns of new Mexico and Utah to the US capital of Washington D.C.

Unique Death's - Disintegration, Implosion, and much more!

First Contact Lost


The First Nuclear Device in the history of man is detonated.

During the detonation a alien scout craft was in decent towards the detonation site. The resulting EMP disabled all systems on board and the ship was sent plummeting towards the earth. Resulting in the scouts death.

July 4th 1947 Roswell, New Mexico


The Invasion Begins

When the first alien space craft landed near outskirts of Roswell, New Mexico their goals were to probe the area, gather tissue sample of the local population, and test the defenses of earth. Stiff Resistance would soon emerge from the local citizens as well as the military that would soon arrive.

A free game is always preferable to a mod. You not only limit yourself by requiring people to buy HoS, you also limit those that have it to actually have HoS installed.

Yes, unless you want to use assets from the game making it a free, stand-alone game is always preferable.
If you do want to make use of game assets you'll have to weigh one side against the other yourself. We can't know, really, especially with only such a vague idea of your project.

That's a mighty ambitious "mini mod" to work on all by yourself, isn't it? I suggest keeping aims low and expand upon it as you gain more manpower and experienced people, else it won't ever see daylight.

That is the Plan

Initially I plan to release the mod with with one to four maps. Depending on the current workload i put on myself.

as for the At sea part in is not the traditional sense... (Ship vs Ship)

Instead -

I am planning on two ships - The Alien Mother Ship and a prototype Aircraft Carrier submarine.

Think of this as Titan Mode for BF2142 but you have lots of aircraft and transports.

Hm. Seems like starting out as a mutator for RO2 could be a good idea then. Get the Alien side off the ground and pit them against the Germans or Russians at first, many official maps could probably more or less work already. Go on from there.
