Well I've been playing with the Katana since it came out, and I've found one thing that sorta makes it harder for me to be efficent: The primary fire of the Katana shares the same hitspace only when it is at the longest distance it can reach. Basically this means that I can decap a gorefast at the furthest katana range by aiming at its headshot hitbox, but if it comes up close, the area where you have to aim is, well somewhere else. Anyone else find out where that "somewhere else" might be? The secondary fire doesn't seem to have this problem.

I was infected with NWS (new weapon sydrom), but I've never face such condition as you wrote.

I'm not a big fan of melee anyway, so dont take my words too serious.

same as where you aim your knife?

One thing to remember is that the swing does not hit the second you press the button. Your aim need to be dead on a split second after you press (you can actually start swing before you are in range as long as you or your target move into range by the time the katana hit - good when rushing sirens).

It's a shame that you have to say "head hitbox" because said hitbox is not actually ON THE HEAD... Please fix, TWI...

Anyway, yes, the sword actually swings it counts as a "Hit" when it connects. So often, when doing that "Upwards" swing of the Katana, you'll hit an arm, torso, or leg if something is RIGHT next to you instead of a step or two away as the sword moves up. When it hits somewhere, that's where the hit is registered on the critter and the sword will pass through the rest of the way without doing damage. Usually still does enough damage to kill, though, but it's why you often see arms and legs getting chunked off of things when you clearly aimed for the head.

Irritating, though, because it'll often happen when you swing for a charging Fleshpound's head; you'll end up hitting his arm or body and still get hit instead of hitting the head for the decap.

I suppose it's probably an intended "Disadvantage" vs the chainsaw, as it's MUCH easier to decap with the chainsaw because it instanty hits straight where you aim with no 'Swing', save for the alt-fire. As many will agree, this makes it MUCH easier to decap things (Like Fleshpounds!), but it's still no match for the Katana's move speed and insane damage...

It is easier to decap a fleshpound using chainsaw because of the insane attack rate [you get similar effects with bullpup and AK47 and to some extend even 9mm handguns]. It is harder (but I don't see why it should be impossible to learn) to time the katana.

I find that it hit where I aim, but it will not hit where my aim is when i press my button, it will register where I aim a split second after i press my button. If you, for example, click while aiming on a clots, but then quickly turn away - you will miss. If you, for example, click while aiming at the side of a clots, but then quickly aim at him - you will kill it.

Should be easy enough to verify in-game. If the swing can hit along the blade and not just dead center of the screen you should be able to aim next to a zombie (until you complete the full swing) and it should still hit... I am skeptical.
