I've been wondering- why go with quick irons over toggle irons? I've tried it out, and I actually find myself not doing too much better (worse in certain cases).

Well the difference is quick iron sights will keep your sight down until you click and hold the right mouse button. It will go back to hip fire once you release.

Toggle Iron sights means you click once to enter iron sights and click again to leave iron sights.

In Killing Floor quick iron sights isn't really needed. The game isn't fast paced enough to warrant the use of it.

In fast paced games like CoD and Battlefield BC2 it can come in more useful. When you are playing as a rusher type class in a clan match and need to cap a point quickly, quick iron sights helps speed up your movement ever so slightly.

With quick iron sights you would sprint into the point, get a hip fire spray going on any opposing rushers, then you would hold quick iron sight to reign in your recoil and get a little more accurate once you'd done the intial damage. When the foes dies, you release iron sights and carry on your sprint.

The whole process on takes a second or 2, but with toggle ADS you have to click once while firing, and then click again to go back to hip fire. The best way to explain it is it is like the difference between a single click and a double click. Doesn't sound like much but using quick iron sights does buy you an extra moment. The fraction of a second you save going from ADS to sprinting with this method can be the difference between escaping clean and getting killed yourself.

But as I say, KF isn't that kind of game ;)

I use quick irons sights, and i find it incredibly useful.

I used to use toggle iron sights in a time before memory, and when i switched to quick iron sights my game improved.

It allowed me to HC quickscope clots and other nasties with the minimum amount of time taken with the most accurate aiming.

Now i'm just used to quick iron sights in every game, i just find it's way better than toggling.

Wierdo :)

j/k, in fairness its all about familiarity, my jump button for example is mouse wheel down, I'm hardly in a position to criticise :)

i at one stage removed the scroll function from my mouse because it had a tendency to f*ck up on me, i.e. decide to scroll itself; because i just used the 1-5 buttons anyway.

I regretted that.

But on that mouse i had nothing bound to right click, and QIS bound to MB4 or whatever the button is that's next to the thumb.
Most of my keyboard shortcuts are nmemonic as well, i.e. M=Medic, N=No, Y=Yes, T=Thanks, i find that makes gaming easier.

And with my current mouse i leave the weights out and have the DPI set at 2/4, which i think is 2500DPI, since half of 5000 is 2500.

LoL I play on like 800 DPI xD

Are you trying to move your mouse inside a square inch of space or somethingt? If I tried that I'd spin round every time I blinked :D

candlejack, you have used similar logic to me when setting up your KF xD

except i use "up arrow" as yes
and then "down arrow" as no
"left arrow" for look out!
"right arrow" for thanks!

mouse5 is special attack, close to home for those oh sh- moments ;)
and yeah jester, i use m-wheel up for jump, and m-wheel down is unbinded!

question jester: are/were you a counter strike player? m-wheel is a very popular jump bind in that game :)

I'm using both quick and toggle sight buttons. When holding the position and playing as sharpie with HC+xbow or demo with LAW I spend 90% of the time looking in iron sights or scope. I get tired on holding the quick button, so I use toggle. While using other perks I'm using quick sights.
In addition I've combined quick iron sighs button with turning off the HUD, so I can make fast and clear shot.

That sounds REALLY useful!
Question: How did you do it? Changed it in the User.ini or something? Please, i'd like to know! :)

I only use toggle irons, binded to spacebar.

I have an unusual set up which I've basically kept, with some modification from CS 1.5 (I think 1.5. It was before the FAMAS and Galil were introduced). I can tap the spacebar to zoom in my 9mm, pop the Clot in the head, and tap again to zoom out.

Right click is jump.
Space is toggle zoom/sights
Wheel click is melee/secondary attack (depending on the game; in some of the older games without a dedicated zoom button, space was secondary attack)

What's a square inch in a real measurement? Like cm or mm. I only know metric.

This is the mouse i use:

YouTube - ‪Cyber Snipa Silencer review‬‏

I'm not actually sure, after watching the video, if it's at 2500DPI or not, since it is most likely at what my friend has it set to since i never changed the DPI settings.

I'm using good ol' Logitech G7 for about 5 years now. It lacks of additional buttons (only 1 on the side), but I got very used to it. Replaced clickers and springs, so now it is as good as new.
The only game I'm playing with 2000dpi is Quake 2, because It needs very precise aiming. In all other games, including KF, I use standard 800dpi.

Yeah, bunny hopping was a must back in the day, now I use it through force of habit :p

And Candle, 1 inch is about 2.5cm :)

does anybody else use toggle sights, but after each shot, go back to the hip and take aim again?

so something like this, 2 clots and a crawler are going towards me at a distance. circumstantially i have the time to look down the iron sights of my HC. so i right click, and left click to take my shot, right click again immediately bringing the gun back to the hip, while simultaneously aiming for the next specimen, and within a microsecond, right clicking to look back down the sights..

so like, right click, left click, right click, right click, left click etc

is that just a weirddd habit i have?

i find it gives me a quick look at my surroundings, and a clearer shot each time.. other than that, the 2nd + shots are significantly more inaccurate!

I use quick irons, because toggle feels slow and clumsy. I go in and out of irons when using an AK, so it is faster anyways.

ljm, I use an AK like that, which is one reason I prefer holding down to aim. I use this in STALKER, ect, any game with irons, it is faster, and if something happens, I can just release the button and switch weapons or whatever. Toggle irons usually ends up getting me killed.

Odd that you say quake 2 requires precise aiming. I like that game, but since it doesn't have headshots, it actually would require less precise aiming than KF where you need to actually hit stuff in the head, and not just do bodyshots.
