I also hope that different rounds cause different effects in ragdolls too. Like getting hit in the chest with SMG rounds might cause you to stumble backwards since the rounds aren't meant to penetrate...but a rifle round would just cause you to fall forward since usually the bullet will penetrate straight through

No round will make you stumble backwards. It

This.

Ragdolls are good, but the way that we see them at the present time isn't quite right. It looks like they just hit a brick wall the second they get shot. There needs to be an accounting of some sort for momentum. Some sort of transition between the animated movement and the ragdoll.

I remember in one of the gameplay videos watching a soldier get shot and instantly killed while in a sprint. He kept moving forward and fell flat on his face.

Must have missed that one ... I'm going off the trailer. I didn't have the hours necessary to watch all of the gameplay videos. In the trailer, the guys are running, and then just -drop- when shot.

About the brickwall thing, I noticed somehow that it in RO it currently looks like all the speed is absorbed by death when people are sprinting and getting shot. I tried to find a video showing what might look better (at least to me)

YouTube - "Kalter Tod" - War Movie, Kriegsfilm Germany

Please go for 3:09. This looks better to me than having the player model in full sprint just falling forward. Maybe the guy is overacting a bit but it's my believe that you will crash very hard on the ground as getting shot is like stumbling over an obstacle, I guess.

Why are you talking about beliefs as if the laws of physics are subjective. You either know how someone falls when they are shot, or you don't. Believing does into come into it.

this was probably from the sniper scope demonstration on the fallen heroes map.

i think i saw it too.

some of the deaths look like blended animations while some seem to actually be complete ragdoll.

and btw, the sniper kill in that particular video looked realistic. the man fell like a sack of potatoes with a bit of forward momentum because he was running.

Well this looks really cheap i hope they don't implement the death animations of some kids playing in the snow.. jezus

Well, I already experienced that when you're running and you don't see something on the ground and hit it with one of your feet you'll definitely not just fall on your face, there's still the speed of running in your body. And I guess it's somewhat the same when getting shot, which I can't tell at 100% as I never experienced it myself. So I threw this video in here as something I thought worth to be shared. :)

uhhh...but you're still alive. that's why you try to maintain equilibrium. someone who is dead or is unconscious will just fall on their face. this is really common sense, no offense.

Problem with things like Band of Brothers is when the tanks fire, the tank doesn't even move, puff of smoke from gun is all. Should have the gun recoiling into the tank as part of the gun itself and the tank actually recoiling slightly as well.

Here's a video of an actual T34 firing that proves you wrong.

That was a dummy round or a blank shell.

I was sitting in the radioman's compartment when that tank fired that live shell. The back blast was ridiculous, and yes the entire tank rocked here's another video of that same tank that was on the show lock N load

look at 0.30 and then look at 0.33...
Regardless extreme moving or flying back when you get hit by a bullet just doesn't happen. I think Saving Private Ryan did a good job showing that. It seems pretty reasonable already with ROHOS's animations already, yeah I think it depends on where you get hit, but I don't want a dramatic death scene for every soldier that gets hit.

I hope tripwire can afford to hire that chick from the Rogue Spear narratives to do voice for their game.

I'll never forget playing rogue spear and hearing it now even reminds me how awesome of a voice that woman has for narratives! Hire her now!

On the topic of death animations. The biggest flaw with these cheese developers at teams like DICE and Treyarch is that when they put in these long overly dramatic death animations, players will think the person is still a living player, and shoot at it. This is an issue because the animation isn't effected at all. I'm all for the occasional dramatic death, but if it's not effected by additional small arms fire....whats the point? It just feels like cheese.
