I prefer the game having a small skillfull community over a huge dumb one.

Go away fail troll.

Surely you mean "dedicated"? Just because it's small, doesn't mean it's "skillful". If anything, the obvious statistical fact is that the larger the community, the larger the pool of "skillful" players.

If i were a developer, and i released a broken game, i would probably not be a massive d*** about it and own up to the problem.

I would likely offer my customers their money back or maybe $20-$30 credit toward a game of their choice in my catalogu. You get fans by being nice and responsible, and that is what insures long time success.

You know, i would actually like to see a developer SO confident in their game that they do not allow preorders and let you play the game for free on the day of release.

Thats what i would do.

Well, that kind of business DO work good. Just look at COD. A lot of money is spent on marketing to make the game look better than it may be. Then they're selling overpriced DLCs....Mafia 2 Devs earned most of their money because of the orginal Mafia games repuptation. Mafia 2 was a extremely poor sequel. Even Daniel Vavr

I can't see us pulling back that many of those who bought the game and then decided they didn't like it, but a free weekend would bring in new players. There must be a fair few who will take a punt on a free game (I only got RO coz Steam were knocking it out for the price of a pint one weekend) The game is more playable than it was initially, so the first impression will be more favourable and a higher percentage of "buyers" may go on to make a purchase and stay with the game. It won't be a huge influx, but better than nothing

I say wait alittle while for the optimizations and fixes. Then lets talk about a free weekend. I'd say make the free weekend coincide with the release of new official maps.

Aside from that I hated free weekends on RO1. That's when you got all the asshat COD BF CS:S players coming on spaming voip, team spawn killing, team killing (cause they can't play a shooter without a name over a friendlies head) etc.. etc.. etc.. Free weekends with RO1 was absolute bedlam.

LOL! if i see one more thread, where another nostradomus predicts when the game dies, i'm gonna puke all over my monitor!
why do people feel the need to predict stuff? so they can feel important if they get lucky and it happens? it's pitiful.

It's the reason why every day when I get out of the house to goto work I make hand signs and point at the tree across the street. statistically there is a chance the tree may get hit by lighting at the exact moment I point, and even better if someone is there to see it. =)

Of course this has nothing to do with the fact that 274,000 people are playing Skyrim. Nope Nothing at all.

All the nattering nabobs of negativity do is create their own self fulfilling prophecies of Doom. The game isn't broke for everybody.;)

This is and always will be a niche game.

I feel for the people who can't get it to run. Been there, done that with other games. TWI will get this smoothed out. Their past history gives me the confidence to say that. If you don't think they're as frustrated as you with alot of this... well I can't help ya with that. Critical thinking and common sense are like super powers in most forums.

Patience people...Good things will come.

While the bugs are certainly an issue for some, I think the majority left because the gameplay wasn't to their liking regardless of what side of the RnG/Realism fence they were on. I've played more buggy games that had bigger playerbases because the amount of fun was greater than the annoyances caused by bugs. That isn't the case for most people in HOS I'm afraid. Unless the gameplay issues are changed or at least made more serverside configurable, free weekends aren't going to do much IMO.

If it takes modders to do that, it's going to be awhile, 4-6 months at least.

This :(

Well actually a mixture of the two. It's not worth putting up with bugs if the game is just a little bit crap in your opinion.

I prefer the game having a small skillfull community over a huge dumb one.

Go away fail troll.

This is no fail troll. The other night North American numbers hit the 100s.

So more people now play Killing Floor than RO2 at North American peak hours. Now some nights, more people are officially playing Ostfront than RO2 during North American peak hours.

Boys and girls, the American competitive scene is on its death bed. Their are only two clans that will play friendlies. The rest are realism clans that have their own set of rules. The pubs that are full are huge servers most of the time in which the ping craps out and makes it un-playable during certain moments.

What needs to be done is a game re-design back to Ostfront, in which we keep the features that Ost should of had that is in RO2. As well as progression on with it that we were looking forward too and expecting in RO2. Look to this post to do that: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showpost.php?p=960533&postcount=102
All this to bring back the ones that loved RO and have no other game to play at the moment that doesn't capture what RO does. After this, the ball can get rolling again on bringing in new players with marketing, free weekends, new content etc. Once the bugs get sorted out we trust TWI will do, as they have always done to a certain degree.

The hit system has got to change. Yes, the bullets register but the body is a overall health system. The hit system is designed for precision targeting and awarding skilled players as has been explained by us with chest high and up kills. At the same time, where is the realism of pretty much having steel arms and legs? How many rounds does it take before you realistically can barely move after taking certain amount of rounds in the legs or knee-caps? Much less being able to operate anything with your hands or arms when hit in those areas.

Now lets consider though, three huge releases that just came out and I will give it the benefit of the doubt. As we have seen in the past, people always come back to RO. It feels very different in this case though, people coming back are playing Ostfront or DH it seems. Most are just waiting for changes to come back it has been expressed. Edit: Watch the RO2 PC Gamer Episode 1 for the explanation of the hit system.

The bandage system is just utter folly as well. Due to the way it is initiated and implied. The 'should be dead' situations happen too often, leaving much frustration and nausea that has been had.

It can't be said more, something must be done.. I know with TWI's recent silence, something is being done about it and I hope it comes with a whole new game design, with the bug fixes that are necessary.

In it's current state the game is not being played by a very many people, which is understandable, I am not playing myself either.

However this is not the same as the game being dead, I for one still have faith that it will succeed in the long run, providing some changes are made. For one it will take a load of new and bigger maps, more vehicles, reworked tanking system and changes to some weapon's characteristics before people will start flogging back to the game.

Perhaps it will even take a change to a broader time period stretching throughout the war 41-45, to pull people back, allowing the introduction of more weapons & vehicles, as-well as more varied battlefield invironments.

In short, the game needs to bring back the big scale battles of the original RO:Ost or fan favorite Darkest Hour. In the meantime the game will be in hibernation.

I have to ask - how big ROOst community was in its finest hour? How big RO2 community is in comparision? I've been watching posts claiming that now we have more players in game that RO1 ever had. How true is that? How many of us - players - are on these forums, writing posts? What we really see?

Anybody knows?

I am a ROost veteran. I don't write much because there is too much negativity written on this forum.

I am on vacation thats why i don't play now. When i am back i will play RO2 daily again.

Truth is if RO2 offered unique rewarding gameplay there would be many more active players. Unfortunately, in it's current state it does not.

Also, threads about dropping player counts show that people at least care. When people stop posting, then the game is dead. So many of us come here everyday because we want the game to succeed. For that to happen the developers have to admit their mistakes and make massive gameplay changes to multiplayer.

The game is difficult, it is perhaps the biggest problem for the disaffected and their frustrations we see here on the forum as the "game is dead threads".
I play with great pleasure RO2 every night and uses minimal time to write on the forum.

Earth.
Actually I've got one. Either give us the option to COMPLETELY KILL THE MUSIC (like I expected from the one we were given already...) or minimize it, or at least prevent the incredibly annoying overlapping that most often occurs at the end of a game.

The game is difficult

Not really, no. My reasons for disliking RO2 has been mentioned several times earlier in this thread, I suggest you read other posts on the matter, rather than making such silly assumptions.
You'll probably be surprised to learn that the most vocal critique of the game and those that wish for TWI to fix their game come from long-time forum members that have played RO for many years. Most members of this community are here to offer criticism because they care, they care about TWI and RO2, and they want the game to improve, because despite all the issues, they enjoy the core gameplay of RO2 as much as the previous RO titles that they've played for many years.

It's a shame to see RO2 pretty much matching "SP only" games in terms of the curve :( I use quotes around "SP only" because RAGE and Dead Island both have MP components, but according to reports they both get boring quickly. The graph certainly seems to support that. I own RAGE, but rocket buggy racing with crap physics isn't really my thing :)

I still have hopes that RO2 can climb slightly higher than it currently is, but that is going to take design changes over and above straight-forward fixes and improvements. We'll just have to see what the TWI crew consider to be realistic changes to an already released games :) My fingers are crossed - I want to see more RO vets playing the game they've waited for and paid money for. This RO vet is fairly happy, but he'd love to see a larger and healthier player base day-to-day. There are also many more potential RO-ers out there, but I think reviews and forum comments could well have scared them off - again, I hope they can be convinced to come in, put their feet up, and repel the fascists.
