Saturday night (European time) servers (sorted by players, descending):
No. 1: 65.64 players
No. 2: 45/64
No. 3: 23/64
No. 4: 2/64
No. 5 similar...
No. 6 also two (out of 48 this time)...
and so on...
Either it's a server browser bug (unlikely, as the list doesn't change much after game restart) or there are only about 200 players max playing the RO2 at a time? Can someone explain it? Even Russian servers, that were full two weeks ago are almost empty!
I paid 39.99 euro just to see that?
Please, please say I'm dreaming or have hallucinations.

After the last patch I got a bug in the server browser list, so it only showed a fraction of what really was available. Deleting the roengine.ini file did the trick, and I am now back to the normal 250ish servers and 800-900 players on my filtered list.

I expected RO2 to be my GOTY, and keep me entertained for many months,
but instead...
40 euros, down the drain.

Oh well...
I also expected Skyrim to be a total BS, so I guess I'm even :D

Wonder if all those "calm down, be patient, the game is still new, TWI is small company" people managed to hang in.

Server browser still causing router disconnect /sigh

Of the 20 hours I played I haven't enjoyed half of it. That's not whining either. It's a fact. Before I registered on this board I never understood why I didn't enjoy the game but now I do. It has to do with new game features and mechanics and in overall the new direction the game is headed.

I doubt TWI will 'fix' this game into what the fans want. They've already changed the direction for the game and they've changed audience. Why would they go back to us? The only thing that may force them to is if the games becomes more or less dead. As Ramm stated, we'll have to fix this game up ourself, to our own taste. TWI are aware that people WILL fix this game up for them. They expect it to happen. So why on earth would they waste money on fixing this game up to what it was supposed to be in the first place when the community will do it for fee for them?

There is no reason to. According to Ramm's post it will certainly not happen either.

While the userbase did take a significant blow from both performance and gameplay issues. It's awfully obvious that everytime a thread like this appears is when a major title has been released. People should stop blaming the decreasing userbase to one major issue, but rather accept that it's also a few smaller issues, and most of them are of a temporary nature.

As much as I love Red Orchestra, I am currently really finding myself with a lack of time to play the games that I want. Skyrim is just a really good game, and BF3 isn't too bad either. I'm not really into MW3, but there are many people that are.

It's a busy season, and new games always taste the sweetest as long as they work. People should give it some time to settle instead of being so pessimistic about it.

i love all these 'console game player' insults that fly around the forums.
i mean, that's exactly what many of the 'doomsayers' say about you, too.

I have met many stereotypical console players. They just have different taste. Most have the philosophy that they want their games to be simple, easy to get into and fun. They really do want a quick brainless time out.

I can understand this after a hard days work. Brain is dead and needs a rest.

Disclaimer: There are exceptions of course.

1- Threading optimization breakthrough or something that makes the game more accessable to the midrange pc's that should run smoother.
2- Free weekend and content update... at this point people will be jumping in like crazy.
I think increasing the performance and having a few days of free play between christmas and new year would do wonders.

Im aware that fixing the performance might not be the easiest thing to do.

That happens to most CoD-a-like games. Take a look here

Either Homefront, Brink and RO2 lost 80% of online players within first weeks.

However if you take a look how unique Indie games do you should be surprised.
None of them lost dramatically 80% of players in first weeks after release. What's more: Average players number isn't low, I could even say that number players is slowly raising

Too bad that I don't have RO:O statistics, but I bet player base graph would be more similar to "unique indie" games, than CoD-a-like.

Take a look at your graphs again. Two are showing post release numbers, and two others show nice steady drop off.

Not to mention they are all games that are far less technical in nature, suffered far fewer problem at launch, and are just far simpler in both game-play and programming.

Terraria is sitting around a 20-30% of its launch numbers in recent trends, and quickly lost 50% in about a month.

Yes, they were a little slower, but we see the exact same trends there as we do with RO2. RO2's drop to stable levels was just faster.

I haven't played RO2 for more than an hour or two in the last week or so. I'm not losing interest in the game, I'm losing interest in the community. Right now, when I have free time I much rather spend it chasing butterflies across the fields and mountains of Skyrim than joining a server to read/listen to some lecture about how the game is dead/dying, and just how bad it is.

I would rather play a game that crashes more often (Skyrim) than continue to put up with the annoying parts of this game's playerbase.

To be honest the last console game I owned was a atari 2600

Someone told me to go back to my console on a server the other day. I figure if they really want me to i could dust off my Goldeneye 64 and give it a replay :)

Seriously though, i can see why player numbers are dropping. I myself only play maybe 2 hours of RO a week. But this has more to do with school and work eating up 99% of my time

If i were a developer, and i released a broken game, i would probably not be a massive d*** about it and own up to the problem.

I would likely offer my customers their money back or maybe $20-$30 credit toward a game of their choice in my catalogu. You get fans by being nice and responsible, and that is what insures long time success.

You know, i would actually like to see a developer SO confident in their game that they do not allow preorders and let you play the game for free on the day of release.

Thats what i would do.

I can't see us pulling back that many of those who bought the game and then decided they didn't like it, but a free weekend would bring in new players. There must be a fair few who will take a punt on a free game (I only got RO coz Steam were knocking it out for the price of a pint one weekend) The game is more playable than it was initially, so the first impression will be more favourable and a higher percentage of "buyers" may go on to make a purchase and stay with the game. It won't be a huge influx, but better than nothing

I stopped playing because of certain design choices and features that ultimately became tiresome after 136 hours (beta and retail). The game is pretty stable for me, it's just not as fun to play as it used to be.

Based on recent posts from the devs, I don't think any of the major gripes I have are going to be fixed/changed in house. I'll either have to do it myself or (most likely) wait for someone else to do it :/

All these threads remind of the same threads back in 2005 when RO1 was first released and how it was gonna be a failure. A few more months from now and hopefully all these doomsayers will be off to another console game and us normal people can have some fun.

A very well analyzed and sorted out investigation, followed by a logical thesis for the future. +1

I am owning a console, because sports games like NBA, Fifa, Racing games make more fun on it. However, for any shooter or strategic game, the PC is the only choice. And I guess that's the same as many others who have both, a PC and a console for gaming.

Yes, I do think you are normal, cause stereotyping and being simple-minded is what the average person does...

LOL! if i see one more thread, where another nostradomus predicts when the game dies, i'm gonna puke all over my monitor!
why do people feel the need to predict stuff? so they can feel important if they get lucky and it happens? it's pitiful.

Seems every game, every release, you see these prognosticators. I never played World of Warcraft but i have a feeling their forums were littered with the same posts too.

among gaming company's you only count if you have at least one "game is dying" post on your forums, and bonus points for having one pre-release ;)
