honestly, i couldnt give two flying ****s about the bugs. i really dont care about that, it will be fixed

it's just that the gameplay is so incredibly mediocre for most of us ostfront fans. there are some great gameplay features that are offset by retarted decisions such as bandaging, weapon limits, and the double zoom(yes it might be realistic but it leads to less realistic gameplay). bandaging and the weapon limits in particular really kill this game. make it more rifle centric and have a ****ton more 1-shot kills, and i'm sure a lot of the ostfront crowd will come back. getting rid of the left-shift zoom would just be icing on the cake

for me, after that there would only be minor gameplay issues like SL spawning, but that i can live with if they fix the gunplay

All these threads remind of the same threads back in 2005 when RO1 was first released and how it was gonna be a failure. A few more months from now and hopefully all these doomsayers will be off to another console game and us normal people can have some fun.

Player count?

Player count?

Saturday night (European time) servers (sorted by players, descending):
No. 1: 65.64 players
No. 2: 45/64
No. 3: 23/64
No. 4: 2/64
No. 5 similar...
No. 6 also two (out of 48 this time)...
and so on...
Either it's a server browser bug (unlikely, as the list doesn't change much after game restart) or there are only about 200 players max playing the RO2 at a time? Can someone explain it? Even Russian servers, that were full two weeks ago are almost empty!
I paid 39.99 euro just to see that?
Please, please say I'm dreaming or have hallucinations.

What relevance does this have on any of us that still play with our clans anyways? Play with a group of friends. Also, you paid for the game, maybe you should have waited a month or two? Complaining about a player count is going to get you nothing.

What friends? I'm 30. How many friends do you think I have playing Red Orchestra 2 on Clan Server??? Please, don't jest.
You're right though - I should have waited... a year or two before I bought the game. Until the game gets cheaper (I've waited only several months from the >>grande premiere<< until "Machete" DVD cost me only $4), the fully functional SDK is released and the community releases new maps and modifies the current gameplay.
You might call me a whiner and say that many similar threads are already present on the forum. But I paid lots of euros for the game and, as a customer, have a full right to make complaints. And my thread is not a whine. It's more a worry. Some people have been posting Steam statistics on the forum claiming the game is peaking at 2000 players a day. 2000 unique players a day perhaps is true, but if you enter the browser and check the player count, it's up to 300 top at a time.
I know that complaining about a player count will get me nowhere. That was not my intention. It's just an observation.
Until now I couldn't give a frack about a playerbase as it was pretty solid. There were at least six almost full large servers online at a time. But today... only one? I was amazed by the sudden drop and that's why I posted the message.

i knew there was something wrong with the game the minute i saw the picture of the german guy holding the mkb42 equipped with a bayonet and scope.

That box art was the picture that told me the game probably wasn't for me - although in fairness it only confirmed what I suspected which was that you wouldn't be adding such a contentious weapon as the mkb without going on to feature it pretty heavily.
So i wasn't really buying the rarity line - otherwise why cause all the bother and controversy in the first place?

Hardly surprising it becomes the pin-up poster weapon - and at the point it's not as if your going to deny the guy with that box on his shelf the opportunity to be similarly kitted out on a regular basis, providing he puts in a reasonable number of hours.
And just to remind me there was going to be an unlock system - put a bayo and scope on it too.

The point is, the company already knows they made a huge mistake regardless if they are willing to admit it or not. Being 30 does not mean you can't have a number of friends to get on and play with. Everyone starts somewhere, look for a clan or join mine and play with us.

i love all these 'console game player' insults that fly around the forums.
i mean, that's exactly what many of the 'doomsayers' say about you, too.

Dear AAChaoshand.

I hope they'll realize their mistakes and rethink their strategy.
The decision to introduce a new dev into the project at this stage was like, putting a new forward player in the last ten minutes of the second half of a football match (or soccer match to ye yanks). Writing code is easy. Debugging existing code for someone who looks at it for the first time, is hard as hell and I really, really hold my thumbs for this poor sod. He should be earning extra cash for just looking at the code (unless StragoMagus is a programmer who worked on the code but only recently got promotion to TWI Lead Programmer)

Also...

It's impossible for me to play with your clan because of timezone differences (not to mention ping times). It's impossible for me to play in any clan even Polish ones as I'm a working man, got my responsibilities, and can only play RO2 in a free time (and even in a free time, often I've got better things to do than that). Not to mention a free time is in deficit these times and time=money.

That is why I expect from a game, that is purely a multiplayer one, to have at least several, almost full servers running simultaneously. And that is why I was worried that after two(?) months after release of a 40e game, I'm left with up to 300 (and I'm really, really generous in numbers here) players playing the game?

You could say: "ye go and buy a console and play BF3 or other crap".
But here's the other problem...
I only play games with a certain level of depth. Either strategy depth (chess, Hearts of Iron III) or tactical one (MPS X-Com trilogy, Steel Panthers, Combat Mission series, Close Combat series, Theatre of War series, Panzer General II, SWAT4, Ghost Recon (pt1), Rainbow Six 1-3). So consoles are not an option with their dumbness.

Ahh... What a world....
To think of it... just a while ago, in 1980s, we had 8-bit computers with simple Psst! and Pitfall games and nobody complained about them... Hell, there were no freakin' forums to complain on at the first place. :D

This game dead before Christmas of....

This game will be dead before Christmas of 2021. The player numbers will be so low by then that all the rest of us will be convinced to leave the game forever!!! By then it won't matter anyways cause the Zombie Apocalypse will be in full swing and only People who have played Red Orchestra will be alive cause they know what iron sights are. The console gamers will not be able to shoot zombies due to them waiting for crosshairs to appear and to turn red to identify it as a foe. They will be eaten and in turn mutate into more zombies just giving us Red Orchestra veterans more bots to shoot at. Fun times ahead indeed! yep this game is so buggy and dead I can hardly wait!

really sounds like you're s.o.l. right now then. i hope for you, that the game picks up on your side of the pond. it's still alive over here.

While the bugs are certainly an issue for some, I think the majority left because the gameplay wasn't to their liking regardless of what side of the RnG/Realism fence they were on. I've played more buggy games that had bigger playerbases because the amount of fun was greater than the annoyances caused by bugs. That isn't the case for most people in HOS I'm afraid. Unless the gameplay issues are changed or at least made more serverside configurable, free weekends aren't going to do much IMO.

If it takes modders to do that, it's going to be awhile, 4-6 months at least.

I hope to see a real solution and performance tweaks that will pull a drastic performance gain for older midrange pc's.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game to hell and play it whenever I can...
But my midrange PC is still a high clocked quad core with a good videocard.... and I still only perform "decently" with some spikes.

I tried showing it to a few friends of mine... They hated it because it looked like crap. Mostly medium graphics and still below 30fps... and all they can say is BF3 looks better and runs better.

Core2Duo 6850 - 3ghz Dual core
4 gigs ram
GTS450

... it runs... but not very well.

So my take on it is a lot of people only runs it very "Meh"
And because of meh graphic details and berely running smooth... it's just not as fun as it should be.

1- Threading optimization breakthrough or something that makes the game more accessable to the midrange pc's that should run smoother.
2- Free weekend and content update... at this point people will be jumping in like crazy.

I expected RO2 to be my GOTY, and keep me entertained for many months,
but instead...
40 euros, down the drain.

Oh well...
I also expected Skyrim to be a total BS, so I guess I'm even :D

Wonder if all those "calm down, be patient, the game is still new, TWI is small company" people managed to hang in.

Server browser still causing router disconnect /sigh
