For long I have been dreaming about what a singleplayer RO campaign would be like. The most concerned issue is the representation of death.
In all the other shooters, the player play as a single soldier who will live to the end of the campaign, taking down most of the enemies. But this should not be possible in a realistic shooter like RO. To present real war, one must be shown how easily a person can be killed, but this should not be just the death of NPCs, it must be the death of the player himself.

So I suggest, the soldier the player plays as should easily get killed in the SP campaign just like he does in the MP game. But when he dies, the player should contine to play another soldier in the same squad till the whole squad are annihilated.

Not a bad idea, will prevent rambo style playing and sticks more to realism to try and keep your teammates alive. But then again, I can understand not everyone would appreciate this. Not to mention that sometimes at the end of a mission you'll be making the last attack by yourslelf.:D

I just hope its possible to play the campaign in co-op, as opposed to indivdual missions made for co-op.

If the 1st squad or platoon is annihilated, we can send the 2nd one, then the 3rd one. :D

Or we can let the missing members respam as reinforcements to the squad, but in a slowly and unnoticeablely manner.

maybe you have to "quicksave" through the campaign
imagine a mission where you have to defend a position with mg 42 against hordes of russian bolties

I was wondering about this, too. I hope the singleplayer doesn't become CoD with realistic weapons, which is what I worry about.

Yes totally agree with OP!

In most shooters, when you increase the difficulty setting, all you're doing is making yourself weaker and the enemy stronger ie more bullets needed to take down an individual!

This off-course is BS!!!!

I think RO should be like GTA and not have a difficulty level, but should be realistic every time! Be it you being shot or the enemy!

In which case completing missions will still be easy cos AI will always be dumb and predictable! :p

All i know is that a bullet to the torso or head is lethal, everything else is bad injuries, and that's how it is supposed to be in my opinion.
A bullet is a bullet, you get hit, you die. And tbh i wouldnt really mind sticking to a single life, and limited quick saves. But that's just me.

But imho nothing should be changed from the original game in how quickly you die. No extra hitpoints, nothing.

The problem is this SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the ability for them to create a cool story-based campaign.

You said GTA, RO and realistic all in the same sentence, shame on you sir :p - Of course I am gesting.

China's idea sounds interesting, that could work, would be nice to see your own personal obituary list at the end of the campaign too.

I doubt this will happen though. It would be too difficult to create an immersive story with the main protaganist changing all the time.

Flashpoint was a fictional campaign based in an imaginary milieu.

It would be a bit more difficult to pull that kind of storyline off in a real scenario if you want to cover more than one part of the city.

Why?

I can see where you're comming from witht the fictional bit, but I don't see what diference it makes how many areas of the city you include.

i think if would be badass in the RO campaign that when you die, bear with me here and try to image what i am imagining..

you get shot and then it like zooms back in slo mo.... and then zooms into another player and you assume his role. so your other player is actually dead and gone but you continue playing as another person.... i dunno

thats my imagination at its best... if you can understand, then hell yeah

Well i think that i read somewhere that you can play as the Russians as well in the campaign.
That way, you can cover more ground of the city while still focussing on one soldier. Have the player fight in one area as the Germans, have the player fight in another area as the Russians.
I think i'll again have to bring up Operation Flashpoint as an example to this, as David Armstrong, the main protaganist, wasnt fighting in every battle of the war either.
It was spread out over several characters: James Gastovski the SF guy, Robert Hammer the tanker, Sam Nicholson as the pilot.
Armstrong is the main character though he doesnt even get to participate in the capture of General Guba.

I like the idea of one life per mission, and maybe an autosave if its a long mission like it was in operation flashpoint
