A friend is having trouble connecting to certain servers. He can download any mods that may be on the server in question (ie AHz vehicles, etc). but when the time comes to finally load the map, he gets a connection failed message.

He can connect to other servers and play, but not all.

Any ideas?

Thx.

I know what happens to me is that I will be playing on a server then, some time later I get kicked off saying connection failed but the server is still going with people on it lol.

Floyd,
I'm sure you've told him to do the obvious things like game cache and all, so the problem is surely with his connection.
His ports and all are open ? You know, upload and download sort of things.

Last but not least, does it only happen with RO ( I hate that question but it has to be asked).

Good luck.

I'm having him "change user" (log off of and back into Steam), delete his clientregistry.blob, verify the cache, and defragment it, etc. I'll know if any of that worked this evening. Because he can play on some servers, I somehow don't think that any of the above are an issue, but we're starting at the beginning.

He just re-installed XP so I'm thinking perhaps there may be some issues there.

Towne, its not that he gets disconnected while playing, its that he can't connect to a particular server. Well, he can connect and download the mods, but when it comes time to connect for the map, he gets disconnected (But only on one server, other servers are OK).

The problem seems to have been traced to NOD32. Aparrently that was re-installed, too. No explaination as to why some servers would load and some would not though....But it seems to be working for him now.

Probably the firewall. He happened to see a message flash briefly and decided to try and make steam and RO exceptions. He hasn't had any trouble since.

I wasn't aware of the re-installs, etc. at first. I thought it was a brand new computer. I had a hard time getting a concise sequence of pertinent information....
