Obviously an intense amount of work goes into these seasonal themed updates (christmas, summer).

Despite the handful kind of crying I'd say the majority of people that would take the time to leave a message here are pretty happy to have something to mix it up a little and revitalize the player base (if only for the sake of novelty). But then the update goes away and all that work sits idle.

What if after the event these packs were available for purchase as an official mutator or something?

No, I don't want the Christmas update all the time. But, a fair amount of work was put into it and it would be fun to fire up every now and then. I'm sure the same will be true with this carnival update. But I think enough people would buy it just for the sake of having it that the creators could get some cash for their efforts. Seems win win.

That said, I really don't know what the technical implications would be. If it's more work than the update itself, it's probably not so feasible.

Anyway, cheers to the people still putting out content for a game long paid for. I think it's under-appreciated.

Yay

Yay

I feel this forum is so "happy giving money fools" but I won't disagree. I would have bought the event skins and such. just so I can maybe play it now and then on solo or something just for fun :)

I'd just let them in the Circus maps as a special theme. That would actually be awesome as a different map then means a whole new theme.
While the Cristmas Zeds and maps just are suitable for christmas this event is timeless and should be in the new maps forever.
I don't want to compare KF with L4D2 but L4D has different themed zombies in every campaign and in my opinion this would be very cool in KF too.

How would that even work?
Those "reskins" are completely different with new hitboxes and all.
It's not as cosmetic as you may think so making it client-based wouldn't work and if it was a mutator, wouldn't that keep people who have not purchased it from joining the server?
That would split the community at best or completely discourage the use of them at worst.

Christmas is fun because it's one time in the year. Celebrating Christmas for an entire year would ruin all the fun of it. Same with Christmas event.

Not sure about that. Part of why I asked.

If someone is hosting a server and they have a mod\mut running, you just dl it and play.

And I do understand that they are new models, not just a reskin. But, the brute (just an example) exists as a new model and anyone can hop on a server that has it and play as long as dl's are enabled.

Having it map specific would work, I guess. But having it as a mut would give you more flexibility.

If it were technically possible to restrict those zeds to their specific maps then I think it would be great. I believe I read there are problems with doing that though, so I'll settle for a short event each year.

They are great though, so it would be nice to have an official mutator to turn them on across the board whenever you wanted. I hope when Tripwire moves on to (hopefully) Killing Floor 2, they release such a mutator.

I see what you did there.
Since it seems to be such a difficult concept to grasp, I made a helpful guide to help explain.

I realize now I chose my words poorly in the original title. I am quite aware of the difference between a new model and a reskin. To eliminate further confusion I have edited the title.

I want the clot on the left, it looks all on fire n shizzle, release it brudda!?
The Clot on the left is just using the FlameCombiner (or some derivative) texture that can be found in KFX.utx. The effect was probably intended to be used when a specimen caught fire, but it seems to have been cut and replaced with the crispy texture. Whatever the case, that obviously has never been used in the final game.

phaps ppl are getting confused with 'reskin' because the new models are rigged to the same animations.

It's the same concept as adding guns. For most purposes the underlying function could be a derrivitive or even the same as an existing weapon with the main difference being cosmetic changes. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of demand yet no one has once confused community reskins of existing weapons with new ones.

they should just leave the new theme zeds in the new theme map.....that simple. should have been that way with the christmas event and unfortunately wasn't. hopefully they won't make the same mistake twice.....

aside from this event "adding" in "new" content for a month, nothing will be added to the game to make anymore different than the game we are currently playing and have been playing for about the last year. once the event is over, it's the same game with one new map, a couple new achievements, an unlockable player skin, maybe some map/bug fixes and that's it.......all the hype making it the "event of the summer" and yet nothing that truly makes it a major update. at least if the "new" zeds were still in the game (just in the Circus map) permanently, then i'd be less critical. as it stands right now, we're again getting "new" content but then after a month 90% of the "added" content is getting taken back.......in other words, we're pretty much getting trolled. :p

it'll be great fun for a month.....just enough time to hold me over until RO2 finally arrives. :IS2::)

Unfortunately if it were "Simple" maybe they would've have done this. But since they are all new texture models and not reskins, with how the game is programmed (which I have no clue because my lack of programming experience - you should admit that too), prehaps having a unique set of texture models for a specific level along with voice and sound changes, it may be a little harder than just flicking a switch, because it will conflict with original models and such.

That's the way the gingerfast crumbles.

The forums members may once again come to our rescue as far as the summer event content. For all those critical of TWI, please remember that they allowed the community to make a unofficial Christmas zed pack. Tripwire clearly wanted it to be exclusive yet still allowed the community to have its way. All the things that the community wants(guns+maps+skins+monsters) we already have provided for ourselves. What we should as a group focus on is the white list and(or) getting community made content into the game.

Side note: I really hope tripwire has plans for KF2 after a well deserved break from creating RO2.

The only problem with having the Christmas zeds around constantly is that everyone is just going to turn on the mutator to have them and then perve on the Christmas Stalkers.:p Go on, deny it :D

I'm different though, I wouldn't fall in this category... much :p
