Screw this, I just realized we are talking about Piranha Games here and not Piranha Bytes!
While Piranha Bytes are masters of atmosphere who have proven their worth to me by creating Gothic 1 - one of the best and most atmospheric games ever, Piranha Games shines with such titles as Transformers 2, Need For Speed: Undercover, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2... Well, at least their source material is better this time but I think there is reason for skepticism. Was it picked because they really are interested in it or was it picked because of the anniversary and the subsequent press coverage?
I mean, the prerendered video still stands and looks admittedly cool so I don't want to spread the typical RO-forum "this is gonna be dumbed down" paranoia just yet. Just retrackting my initial statement with a little too much enthusiasm...

I was thinking this after checking out the previous titles developed by Piranah Games...but it isn't just Piranah Games, it's Piranah games *plus* Smith & Tinker - who were originally part of the FASA Interactive team who developed all the previous Mechwarrior games.
It'd be very easy to mess up a Mechwarrior title into a generic "Oooh look explosions!" action game, but with Smith and Tinker on board I really hope they don't.

Don't know if you guys have found out or not, but since this is a prequel to all the MechWarriors, there will be no Clan Tech; just the Houses of Inner Sphere.

From the interview it sounds very promising. They seem too eager to bend at their future publishers whim though, but I guess that's the nature of the business
If they do it justice, i'll be very happy indeed!

All i can find are the Mech Commander games, when i search for Mechwarrior i get swamped in youtube vids, illegal torrents, and places where i can buy the games, but none of the legal free downloads people talk about.

Incredibly atmospheric.
The new Mech games sucked so damn hard, turned into a penny arcade shooter.
This one looks promising.
The trailer even resembles the old trailer for Mechwarrior 2.

anyone knows if Black knight is included or not?

They planned to release it all, but now it's just MW4:Mercs with all the available bonus packs from Microsoft and mektek's own packs, plus their auto-installer/updater program thing and better ways of getting people into games.
They apparently want to release the campaigns later when they are done integrating them into their game.

Thanks for posting this, I loved MECH 2, so very well done. If it was re-done today, with today graphics and physics engine, and expanded upon as far as feature, it would be pure win.
However this new Mech 5 looks very promising. I actually re-installed Mechcommander2 the other day, and Mechwarrior Mercenaries, which I think is Mech4.
Mercenaries isn't all that bad actually, and as I recall there was another title which had an expansion which made it really good as well, though I don't remember what it was called. Black Guard, or Blak Hand or something like that.
