A Message To 64-player Server Admins

Join your server. Play for a while. At some point, does every single person in the server's ping spike to above 120-130, with many in the 200+ range?

The answer is probably yes. This means YOUR SERVER CANNOT HANDLE 64 PLAYERS. Sorry to break it to you, but you need to face facts.


Turn your servers down to 48 slots, or 44. See there are still lag problems. I'm tired of having gameplay ruined by half-hour-long lagspikes where hit registration goes to **** and it becomes impossible to kill anyone with a bolt. After trying it, people will probably also agree that the maps play better with a slightly lower playercount - they just aren't designed to hold 64 people.


+1 if you're tired of all the full servers near you being laggy despite low ping in browser.

I agree. server seem to be unable to cope with 64 players. I haven't played on any yet that got close to giving me a consistent <100 ping.

Game probably could use some optimization in that regard whereas many server could probably use an upgrade.

Whatever the cause 64 players isn't near as good a gaming experience as 48 man servers or less, because of the ping.

I don't think it's a bandwidth or power issue for most servers. Just something wrong with the current games network code. The Beta didn't have this problem. Should be patched by TWI shortly.

I've seen lots of servers that had decent pings for everybody (all under 100) and then, all of a sudden, they rose to 300-500 for everyone on the server.

My server was doing this with sadly 32 slots (Art of war central). We put a ticket in to either refund or fix this and they claimed to have raised the cpu priority which seemed to have fixed it for now. Obviously that shows that it's on the providers end.

I have a sneaking suspicion that pb has something to do with it too as this only happened after i turned pb on to stream.

Perhaps some of those people that sets their servers to 64-players doesn't know about this?

I have also frequently seen 64-player servers that clearly could not handle that amount of traffic.

Even if it is RO2's fault and not the servers... That doesn't mean we should play with laggy servers. We should accommodate the game until TWI can do something about it.

Because there are no populated 48/50 man servers on the west coast. Everyone gets sucked into the laggy-*** 64 mans. :/

My friend said he lags only on 64 players with tanks, but the game works fine for him if its infantry only. If that helps anything :\

PB/VAC on/off

ping in browser low/med

ping in game low/med

seems to be latest patch

of course there are overloaded servers and some of them are overloaded @ 32 players

this is a different issue

I'm not saying that it is definately possible on any dedicated server. But many clans run multiple games on the same server.
People who run it on a non-dedicated server (running multiple games) should try to turn their other games off and see what happens.
Could well be you will be turning on the other games pronto because it doesn't matter, but hey you tried.
