I'm starting to get tired of the "run n' gun" foolishnessvgoing on the public servers. Are there any reliable private servers with some real tacticians on them? You know, "Shoot, move, communicate," andall that? People who don't care about getting the most kills but actually winning? People who actually can spend a few dollars to buy a microphone? Add me to your steam account and maybe I can start one on my end, also.

There are a few, generally I find that avoiding the larger serves lends itself better to more tactical play. I know for one the 169th runs a server and we try to keep it less run-and-gun-ey, and it is on a map rotation which helps. Unfortunately, keeping a server like that populated has been difficult :/

We also use TS and welcome people to stop by and play with us when we are on.

Cool. I'll give that one a go. Top ten players stat sheet seems like a detractor though.

If you like COUNTDOWN, we are one of few NA servers (Chicago) that has a fairly regular population each night. We typically get it rolling about 9 PM Eastern and it runs pretty hard for 4-5 hours on weeknights, longer on Friday and Saturday.

Lots of communication as well. We do try to enforce some basic tenants of TR rules too (which are scrolling). Come give it a look-see. If you like it, stay. If not feel free to try another.

As you can see it is a 32-slot server as well.

{BdG}Tactical Realism runs full realism. Generally we play TE, but switch to CD often enough. We also play closed in-house scrims.

Always using in-game comms and have Team Speak.

Gets going around 7-8 PM PST.

While I can't name specific servers, generally if you want a Red Orchestra experience you either need to go Countdown or <32 player Territory mode. Less people = less intensity = less run and gun. Countdown especially weeds out undesirable players, if you're not interested in actively playing WITH other people you get firmly put down and with no certain respawns it means dying matters a lot to you personally. Smaller territory games have merit in that they are not swarming with players. You can actually hold ground for more than 20 seconds without being overrun by freshly respawned people who knows where you are because they died last time they tried to take your position.

The less people on the server, the more valuable a two-man fireteam becomes, which is the easiest and most basic form of teamplay there is. From there you can expand on teamplay easily. My best RO2 experiences have been a couple of small scale clan matches ~10vs10, not because of voice communication specifically, but because the pace of the game drops to a military simulator level where it is reasonably possible to survive long enough to work together as a team.

Yeah I love closed 10v10 Countdown scrims. This game actually comes into a form of its own when you play it like that.

Basically in the server browser, you want to pick a clan server.

You take a look at the people already in the server.

If there is at least 4 out of 32 players who are clan members, odds are a little better. If there are many people with clan tags with a majority being of the server... It should be even better ;)

Hmm, would it be possible to find a kind clan/server owner on this forum to help with some form of forum-organized event perhaps? Let the community decide player count and game type, maybe make it a bi-weekly thing or perhaps once a month, and let people sign up for it, given that they're close enough to the server geographically and have a mic (SLs at the very least).

I'll freely admit I haven't the slightest clue as to whether or not it would be possible to give signed up players priority or a temporary VIP-slot or if it's possible to switch between say countdown and territory on a single server, but I suppose it could be worth looking into :)

Oh, Lord. =TaT= would love to have folks like you present. Right now we have 6 RO2 servers up with most map configs. We have a core group who makes a real effort to get our Apts server populated nightly. Admins are usually present, and we are most certainly focused on map objectives. Use of teamspeak is mandetory for us while in-game.
We have a public access channel for TS. I'd love to tell you more
but I'm not sure if it's appropriate to do so in this forum. But if you
visit www.thickasthievesgaming.com all inquiries about our servers
and our gaming style will be answered.

This seems rather promising. In game VOIP is not good enough, though?
