A community request - Looking for good muzzle flash material

We are trying to hunt down some REAL GOOD reference pics of muzzle flashes from WW 2 weapons. Preferably the ones we feature in our game.

An important thing for me is that muzzle flashes for most weapons at a far distance in bright daylight are not too easy to see. Like:

The muzzle blast generally only shows for a really really short time which is why most videos won't even show a muzzle blast on it. (with a higher framerate you would see it more easily but the game for most people won't run above 60fps either).

Question is what kind of ammo do they use. Some types with more gunpowder generates "Hollywood" muzzle flashes. In real life muzzle flashes aren't visible on greater distances than ~180 meters.

In conclusion: during day-time there should be very little muzzle flash, or even none at all. A puff of smoke or a couple of sparks is more realistic.

Yeah as some have said, it's very clear that most weapons don't produce a very clear muzzle flash during the day time -- mostly just smoke.

That said, it's clear the Mosin and some high caliber pistols do emit a flash during the day. Just an observation about the above videos that is worth noting, from a non-gun expert.

Even with a weapon like the Thompson in the middle of the day, it's hard to make out a muzzle flash:

Wasn't going to post, but saw this video the other day.
Because so many youtubes and video shots miss the actual flash altogether, there will always be the naysayers.... I thought the mythbuster's video was nice. Notice they could see the flash, but the camera didn't?...that is until they used the 'Hollywood' blanks that had a longer and more persistent flash? oops....is my rambing what Yoshiro meant by they know how the flashes work?

One thing people need to be careful about (and it was mentioned somewhere up the list)... it isn't that you don't get muzzle flashes in daylight - the biggest problem is that most are VERY fast and it takes a good camera/high-speed camera to pick them up. The human eye doesn't operate in "frames" so sees things like muzzle flash better than a camera. The trick is capturing it - and then capturing the same "effect" in game, when the game may be running at 30-60 fps - a flash may last less than 1/24 of a second, which would have it visible in only one frame at 30 fps.

So I'm a little confused on this, are you looking for more slow-mo/night shots than anything? If that's the case I can go on a witch-hunt when I am out of work later today. I can imagine this to be a very difficult thing to implement in a game if you are looking to do it accurately.

Okay, well it's really the mp-38, but I'd imagine the flash to be pretty similar.

Well that was a fun 2 hours of muzzle flashes. Will add more later. (Check last post for edits if you didn't see them)

It really depends what type of blanks are being used. Some blanks are made to simulate the actual muzzle flash while other hollywood blanks are made to have more flame. I realize this, but at the same time the flames do shoot out the barrels in similar directions, whether exaggerated or not.

I assume you mean half loads and full loads when you're talking about "Hollywood Blanks" and more realistic ones. Anyways, there is a big difference between the muzzle flash of blanks and real ammo, as this video beautifully demonstrates.

As you can see, a lot more unburned powder is thrown into the air from the blanks, causing a big fireball and much more light.

Although I've never shot my Mosin at night, I have seen it make fireballs about the same size with the same ammo used in that video...
