If you fail to inform people and only "portray" a unit you help to water down the importance of history and what we should take and learn from it.
Right you are "representing" a unit. But a coin allways has 2 sides. Why not informing people ? The worst that could happen is that they maybe learn something....Or are you afrait that people might learn "too much" ?
Maybe i just dont get whats so cool about having some 69.SS tag and playing with utter redicilous "relism rules". But maybe thats because iam german and my grandfather ( served as Kardmelder in the 1.Panzerdivion ) and my grandaunt ( served in the Waffen SS ) where really behind to giving us an insight of what happend and how people where thinking in that time and what lead to some of behaivours and such.
Incorporating both sides of the history is not a problem, but forcing them to do so, seems a bit out of hand. Plenty of Russian units commited warcrimes, and I'm willing to guess no other Russian unit has put that side of history up.
Yes, perhaps you don't understand what is "cool" about playing realism rules and units. I am in a unit representing the 11.Panzer-Division (Heer), so I have no SS tags. Even if I did, I see no problem with it. Call the rules whatever you like - we're dedicated people and we would rather not have people with your views in our community (I mean about the realism rules, not your views on SS etc).
Sorry, I have never stepped into these debates, but there was NOTHING good about the SS, period.......
Well, sir, have you ever met an SS man? I've met and talked to plenty and have researched plenty and it's obvious by your innane statements you have not. If that is all you're going to say, then maybe you should continue to stay out of debates.
First of all, many (if not a majority) of SS troops were foreign volunteers fighting Communism. They couldn't readily join the German Wehrmacht, so were restricted to the SS. You really think the Indische Legion (Indian Legion) were horrible SS "murderers" as you may condemn them all to be? Simply put, no.
Second of all, with the exception of Grossdeutschland and perhaps Feldhernhalle, the SS was considered "elite" and was given more and better material for war. As a young impressionable teenager, the prospect for any male of being considered "elite" would be a glorious idea, as the Marine Corps is in the US military today. In those circumstances, I can't say what I would have done, for in hindsight, the option may seem simple to us.
Don't make the mistake of listening to everything you hear. Many were horrible, I will not deny it, and the pain they inflicted emotionally and physically shall neither be forgotten nor forgiven; however, many were human beings like you and I.
