I got these Razer Barracuda headphones and i was wondering if Red Orchestra supports 5.1 audio. How can i enable 5.1?

Actually Red Orchestra supports more than just 5.1 surround sound.

You can try going to Configuration in the main menu.
From there, open the tab "Audio".
You'll find a droplist called "Audio mode", select H/W 3D + EAX.
If that doesn't work, select H/W 3D.

And if both don't work and your headset is a native USB device, it doesn't support OpenAL or EAX.
In that case you were better off with a regular non-USB 3,5 mm headset or EAX-compatible USB headset and an OpenAL/EAX-enabled soundcard.

These got 4 3,5mm, one for each channel + mic, and USB for power, so they should work like normal 5.1 speaker system as far as i know. I'll try it without EAX if it would work then.

So you have the 3,5mm 3-conductor jack?

That means the question do you have EAX/OpenAL compatible audio hardware remains.

Windows Vista doesnt support EAX as far as i know, and with H/W 3D it just sounds like normal stereo. I got system OpenAL driver option enabled. 5.1 works fine in css, tf2, dod:s and movies. Im not sure what OpenAL is so if you could explain it to me i'd really appreciate it.

OpenAL has replaced what would have been Direct Sound in the D3D library from Microsoft.
There is an application that emulates EAX for Vista.
This all depends on which sound card or chip you have!

I got integrated 7.1 sound card. Thats all i know about it.

Anyone got an idea? I would really like to hear Red Orchestra in surround. Im getting sound only from front speakers now. Like it was just 2 speaker system.

Anytime I ever had problems with my sound, it was actually with my sound card settings. Usually after a driver update, they defaulted to just 2 speakers. As far as I know, you can set any game settings to use 5.1, but if your sound card defaults to a lesser speaker setup, then you are stuck with that until you go into your speaker/soundcard settings and change it. Playing with the game settings won't help at all until you do.

I got my Realtek HD audio on 5.1 and its working well in movies and such.

I reinstalled Steam and RO but it still wont work. Isn't there anyone with 5.1 speakers/headphones who could tell me how to get this to work.

I used to have 5.1 headphones (they broke), and remember having to check "system driver" in the RO audio config for them to work right. (was xfi not realtek)

I got that checked, Vista is on 5.1 speaker and i still get sound from front speakers only.

Maybe you can find some info by googling "unreal tournament 5.1 speakers vista", since that's the engine. Quick check see others with non-xfi having the same problem. One guy fixed it by enabling stereo instead of surround in bioshock... but not sure how you could apply that here.

I've tried googling with various keywords and i havent got any help. Im starting to think that im not able to get 5.1 audio because of vista. Theres that creative ALchemy but I dont know if it works without creative sound card.

You have the latest drivers for your motherboard / integrated sound card?

I'd check on the manufacturer's site as well as the windows update.

To find out the model of your motherboard, you can use a program like cpu-z.

Actually I just tested my 5.1s on RO and surround sound isnt working for me both on the Mobo(SoundMAX) card and my little usb creative soundblaster, while they both work perfectly fine on any other game/dvd. And yup I'm on vista (64) as well. hmmm
