Is ROHOS going to have 3-d audio for the mic? Used for voice communication?

Resistance and Liberation has this, after reading some of the war stories it sounds so rad!

YouTube - Resistance and Liberation - Ramelle

At the beginning of the video you will notice his team-mates MIC get louder and more quiet depending on how close or far away he is from the player.

It adds to great immersion when you can hear your enemies discussing strategies or even yelling obscenities at you (even better if the german players speak german ) As opposed to the omnipresent MIC.

Why would casual players dislike it. For some things you need to know how far away someone is. As its useless yelling watchout enemy behind the corner to your entire team.

Nice little idea but casual players will dislike it.

Which is't anything i can be concerned about.
3D audio is great, and should be included for voice-commands as well.
What's the use of hearing a grenade-warning all over the map? Does it tell you where the grenade actually fell? No.

If we really are to think about the mainstream player 'again', it should be at least a server option.
The noobs can have it off.

Also, when they do this, this could make Radios useful for more than just arty strikes.

So if a player is standing next to a Radio when using voice chat/voice commands, anyone with a tank radio can hear it, and anyone standing next to another radio can hear whats being said. Also they could put some effects on the voice coming out of the radio, like in CoH, so it sounds like its actually coming out of a radio.

While maybe not good for casual public play, it would be good as a server options for clan matches, as it would add another layer of tactics if players have to actually think about how to communicate with the rest of the team.

of course people could get around it with teamspeak but i'd hope players would prefer the realism.

Heck, this could even add a codebreaker/radio operator class, who could fiddle with the radio to try and listen in on enemy voice chat/radio commands, and especially things such as artillery co ordinates, so that the friendly team would be warned on the map where the arty strike was coming.

I actually think 3-D sounds would be great to have, but I also think it would be more effective if combined with having local voice comms only. Of course people will use teamspeak, but for those who'd like to have the challenge of only being able to talk to those in, at the furthest, shouting distance.. then they can. In fact hardcore public servers would be great for this because not everyone would be on teamspeak with each other. You'd have to send a runner who would then have to brave the battlefield in order to relay information to teammates across the map. It's one more way of making people work together in order to be successful.

This is really, really great idea. I would love this. This would add so much realism and "the feeling of being threre".

This sort of intelligence action did not happen in the front lines, as you know I

Tbh rather than running hence and forth i think people would just stop talking to each other and lone wolf. It would be a nice serveroption to have only a local channel.

But for getting forms of teamplay i think the ability to speak to the entire team is needed, even if only because there is no mission briefing beforehand where everybody discusses what to do.

Well if you think about it, you couldnt really have 3-d voice comms if you had full team chat at the same time... right? Either you can hear everyone, or only those in shouting distance; can't have them both at the same time.

..and yes, I agree, in a clan match setting we all talk about the plan before the round starts (everyone is on TeamSpeak after all), but this doesnt happen in public play. Team communication in public play is usually along the lines of 'hey we need two more to start capping the Market!' or 'we are losing the Bunker!' etc. If you had to send someone to find teammates and shout to them that we need a few guys at 'X' objective, I think it would add a new and challenging dynamic to static maps (which in short time become predictable as you know).

Not only would the guys sending the runner need to hold their position until help arrives but also on the opposing side you should be keeping an eye out for enemy runners so they cant get help.

Lone Wolfing happens on public servers regardless of a handful of guys shouting into team voice comms that they need people in certain places... those Lone Wolfers arent going to heed any call, so I dont really count them. There are people on public servers who want to play and win as a team. It's almost more satisfying to work together and be successful with people you dont know, as opposed to your clan (but this is besides the point).

Why cant you have them both at the same time? The thing is even when you can talk to everybody a 3d based channel is still beneficial.

There has been often enough when i want to talk to someone directly next to me, and for that to work well he need to be able to track down that the sound is coming from me. Here would 3d voip commands work well. Especially as they fade over distance as well.

Be it for saying there is an enemy behind the corner, or whatchout grenade. A good 3d local channel will be nice and a server option to only have the local channel or a public one as well would be nice.

But in general 3d voice comms for local channels, would be really nice to have. Both for voice commands and ingame voip.

See I wasnt clear about voice commands and in-game voip. I was referring to 'voip only' when I said you cant have both 3-D only and full team voip. I should be more clear next time.

Now that this is clear, I think voice commands should definately be only within shouting range (should have been like this all along). Also, as I was suggesting, I think it would be great to have only a local voip channel and have it in 3-D... no full team channel voip. This would add a new challenge to the game while being within realistic confines.

I use the "Local" channel when I'm tanking, the "Team"channel when I screaming for my team mates to get in the cap of to blow the friggin' tank already.

I use public to hurl abuse at the other team...

Local works just like you describe - the closer they are the louder their voice. If they're to my left it's louder in the left speaker...

I thought this was standard?!? Doesn't yours do this already?

As far as I know, local channel never worked and still does not work in tanks. (Does it work at all?) And that was one of the biggest problems while tanking in RO:OST.

At least I never could make it work, and I

Nice little idea but casual players will dislike it.

It is in fact the opposite of what you said.

Clanners will find it useless, as teams use their own voice comms.
Casual players use ingame chat so this is actually useful to them.

Hurr durr :p
