3.4G, do you call that a patch?

The need for big patches like this is a shame, but they're necessery. It's a big problem for ppl with connection caps or 56K.

We got it, now you can stop soft-trolling each other.

You DO realize that you had to redownload most of the maps again due to them being optimized, right?

You also realize that because of the way Steam currently patches certain third party games that even just changing one tiny thing may require a massive file to be redownloaded for some games, right?

This is a necessary evil until Valve implements their new system of patching games with Steam.

I for one like the new spawn on Commisar's House (Rus, spawn 2, far left).

So this is not just a graphical update to a map, but a gameplay technical one to boot.

And I would even download the same maps with different times (sun, shadows) or different weather.
But that is just me...

The point is, that this is the first game in my large collection that I have been forced to in effect DL 3 times in size in a very short time after release.

Don't tell me that is normal, because it is not, but a direct result of releasing a game that is neither finished in its core, nor optimized in its performance. Even Tripwire has said that themselves on the frontpage!

I am one of them who are forced to have a slow mobile wireless connection with a cap on 10 GB/month because I live in the countryside. It takes me around 2 hours to DL 1 GB.

I buy most of my games on DVD for this reason, so I only have to DL patches and upgrades, and most of these are in mb or maybe up to 1 GB (rarely).

So having to DL around 20 GB within a short time to keep up with the "patches" is neither normal, nor "what to be expected"!

So people like me who had to spend around 40 hours DL, owning the game-DVD, has every right to be pissed off!

We didn't reduce texture size, or any of that sort of rubbish.

We changed culling distances on art assets in the levels (among other similar changes).

no idea what that means, but i have some really noticable improvment with my eyefinity setup.. thanks

If you don't expect games to have patches, sometimes large patches, in this modern era of gaming

What era? The era of fan-boys defending horrible releases and pretending like any complaint about quality is a personal affront to them? Wake up, criticism is all part of the free market economy. If you can't have your product criticized don't release it. In fact, part of the reason, investor pressure aside, that software companies can release such crap is because the GAMERS ALLOW IT. You don't see this type of BS in the business world.

...Test properly prior to release. Wow. You don't seem to have any idea just what goes into creating a game, creating patches, or even what goes into testing, especially when not every single hardware configuration can be tested prior to release, especially from an Indie developer.

First, stop with this whole Indie publisher bull, I didn't pay Indie dollars for this game so I don't care what their budget is. It is the publishers responsibility to ensure a proper release, they don't get a magic pass because they're "indie". Second, you obviously have no idea about proper testing of software. The whole point of a beta test is to final test a product across a wide spectrum of machines and determine, what, if any, bugs need to be ironed out before launch. Furthermore, its not like these bugs are platform specific, most of the problems are the result of buggy code.

Aside from play testing, there are several testing methods that programmers use to ensure their code isn't a **** show. For example, a java programmer might be familiar with JUnit. The fact that the devs couldn't even get the stats to work properly is a pretty solid indication that something went horribly wrong in their code, and that they weren't testing their code properly to find the root cause. Likely, someone on the team sucks at coding and ruined a large chunk for the whole team--I've been there before, and it blows, but again, that's not my problem, that's their problem.

So, as for the OP's original comment, yes I agree with him. This has not been a professional release, and this patch schedule has followed the same unprofessionalism we saw at launch. Its not like this is the only large patch they have released.

The perfect example of someone who doesn't get it. Go figure.

And Red_, you DID pay "Indie dollars" for the game. The game was $31.99 - $39.99. Go check out the new AAA releases and tell me again you didn't.

*NOTE: For the record, I'm not saying that $32-$40 isn't real money, just that next to $59.99 for nearly ALL the latest AAA releases is in fact "Indie dollars".

Myself and several others I know are still having issues with the sound bug that was supposedly fixed. Also the Station map seems to run ****tier than ever now. I also had to turn bloom off after the patch (not that it's a big deal, usually have it off anyway)

On the plus side most maps seem to run better and arty doesn't seem to lag servers as much. Also I am hearing from clan mates that there is much less crashing to desk top.

With all the above said I really believe that the future of this game is in the hands of the moderators and custom map builders. Who can hopefully limit the numbers of classes / weapons, and remove the damn lockdown timers.

Then again I'm just .o1% of the population that plays this game

This is quality PR.
Again, try reading. I'm guessing you didn't because if you did you'd have seen where I said, earlier on in this thread no less, that I am a mod. I'm not TWI. I have my own opinions just as you but at least I read everything before making a claim like yours against someone "just because".

I wasn't referring to the earlier posts however, but the post I quoted. See, that's how the quote function is used.
And of course, everyone has opinions. I just find it humorous when one of the voices of a company acts just like the average moderator of a non-commercial mod.

... I AM just an average moderator. What part of what I've said three times now are you not getting?
