Now that christmas/holidays are over, New Year's Eve is next up. So I've been thinking about this year in retrospect and what to expect from 2012, and thought that this could be quite interesting to discuss with others/read about others' thoughts.

So...

1) How was your 2011 in retrospect?(Both personal/general)
The first nine months of my life in 2011 pretty much sucked, because I was doing alternative service 45h/week in child protective services(doesn't sound so bad, reality is incredibly annoying children and drug-addicted 14year olds, although in most cases it's not really their fault but their parents'). On one hand I became friends with some of the pedagogues and the whole thing definitely was an experience that might come in handy one day(when I'm a dad, basically), on the other hand I was just SO glad it was over, because I could finally get back to my real proper life. Directly once I was done with alternative service university started, I'm studying law and really like it so far. First HUGE(as in 75% failure rates) test is end of january.

In general it wasn't really a special year though imo. Of course you get the obligatory catastrophys like the Fukushima thing. The arabic revolutions were special too of course, but that's a thing still in progress because the important part now is what happens in the future in those countries. And of course the maniac Breivik who shocked the world.

2) What do you expect from 2012?(again, can be both personal & general)

As for my personal life, there's not much that's going to change I guess. Keep studying and take what life throws at me.

On a general scale, I expect something big to happen. Mabye riots in Russia or Iran, but I think that something will happen that will appear to frighten global stability.

Also I believe that it will be very interesting to see how/if media will be hyping the Maya thing up (or not). I can certainly see quite an amount of people meeting up at puplic places to wait for the apocalypse, Men in Black style.

3) What are your New Years resolution if you have any?

I think I've become quite a cynic, so I'll spend some time on trying to revert that and enjoy life more and be less driven by prejudice and be yet more open-minded. Other than that I don't have any special resolutions.

Can't wait to read other peoples' thoughts!

OK. I'll bite...

1) How was your 2011 in retrospect?(Both personal/general)
Personally, it was pretty much just another year like any other year. Some high points, some low points and lots of things I could've done better, should've done better.

Generally, again it was just another year like any other year. Mankind/society continued to shoot itself in the foot while pointing the finger at someone else.

2) What do you expect from 2012?(again, can be both personal & general)
Personally and generally, I expect it to be another year like any other year with two exceptions.
Exception one: Hopefully I learned something from last years mistakes and won't miss opportunities that arise or make the same mistakes again.
Exception two: Mankind/society will continue to shoot itself in the foot while blaming someone else. The difference between 2012 and 2011 will be the epic increase in and continuing madness of "kicking the can down the road" ("passing the buck to later generations") that elected officials will and the complete apathy of the general populace with respect to leaving their children to deal with the s*it they are too cowardly (or selfish) to deal with.

3) What are your New Years resolution if you have any?
1)Not vote for any spineless politicians.
2) Maintain my integrity.

Coincidentally, I'm working on a brain-scanning device as well! Maybe we can pool our resources and make this **** happen!

2) What do you expect from 2012?(again, can be both personal & general)
Hopefully, I'll be able to extract feelings by March, simple thoughts by October and completely read people's minds by Q2 2016.

3) What are your New Years resolution if you have any?

I don't care about resolutions for now, but in the later stages of the project we'll require fairly high resolution scans. Women in particular seem to be very complex creatures so the more accurate we can scan, the better!

1) How was your 2011 in retrospect?(Both personal/general)
Pretty much sucked, still unemployed but I had a really nice job for a 2 months, replacing some guy at a sportshall. Then the guy came back and I was fired. My graphics card died which gave me a perfect excuse to finally upgrade my 6 year old system so now I have a relative modern piece of hardware. Far Cry 2 has some really sweet graphics yo! Other then that, planned on going to turkey to meet my online gf for a second time but then just the two of us, my parents talked me out of it, her parents might find out and her dad is quite conservative, besides that, we're adults, meeting eachother behind her parents back is something teenagers might do. Also in august I did some tests and now I'm diagnosed with asperger which makes alot of sense. Apperantely people don't hire me because I can't fake enthousiasm and I never give a **** about anything.

But on global scale 2011 was very interesting, arab revolutions, earthquakes, tsunami in japan followed by a nuclear disaster, cousin going to the pukkelpop festival and a storm destroying said festival killing 5 people not including my cousin. Weather going crazy, spring was more like summer, summer was like auttum, auttum was like spring, winter is also like auttum atm. Christian extremist killing people in Norway, arms/drugs dealer killing people in Belgium. Euro crisis, Greece crisis and riots , London riots, Occupy movement around the western world, bank crisis, etc.

2) What do you expect from 2012?(again, can be both personal & general)
Probably things will get worse, the arabic countries which had revolutions will get a fresh start and in some revolution will continue, weather will be weird, extremists will do extreme things, crisis will happen. And especially at the end of 2012 I bet some groups will commit suicide and maybe (although unlikely) something interesting will happen.

On a personal level, my brother announced he will marry his gf next year in july, also my sister is pregnant and will probably give birth around august. I will give my relationship with my online gf one last chance, if we can't meet next year it probably means we can never meet. And for the rest, probably alot of me being unemployed and getting special treatment from orginizations that help me find a job.

Boring as f**k, decided to see school though, spent most of the year banging my head against a table and doing absolutely nothing.

1) How was your 2011 in retrospect?(Both personal/general)
It was pretty stupid for the first half (exams, studying, blah). Summer was great. Got a job, met the girl of my dreams, found a doctor that can qualify me for military service. So, on whole, 2011 was pretty much the best year ever for me.

2) What do you expect from 2012?(again, can be both personal & general)
Not sure honestly. It's hard to tell what Kim Jung-un will do, Iran is this close to blocking the Straight of Hormuz along with the major US blunders in the country, the EU could collapse, we are set to see if the world will end (again) at the end of the new year, more massive unrest and voting issues in Russia, lots of powerful earthquakes all going off ever more so frequently now, and a few more that I can't think of right now (not to mention Yellowstone is always in the back of my mind). New major wars could be on our hands, or more natural disasters like Taiwan/Formosa, Pakistan, Japan, Christchurch, oil spill in Russia, etc. Can't wait to see if there will be a zombie apocalypse, too. It will be an interesting year to say the least. :)

3) What are your New Years resolution if you have any?

Get a doctor to square me away for military service, enlist, live my dream career, and enjoy my life!

1) How was your 2011 in retrospect?
Significant and surprising. Unexpectedly stumbled upon a cluster of personal revelations that made my life much easier and removed any and all doubt and confusion, without any effort on my part.

2) What do you expect from 2012?
To be crushed into a singularity by an undetectable black hole.

3) What are your New Years resolution if you have any?
Keep on enjoying the ride around the sun as much I have been the past 2.25 decades.

1. How was your 2011?

Quite terrible at first. Was still dealing with the lack of employment, getting accused of various things by my bat**** crazy Mother, and piled underneath debt (almost all of which thanks to her actions no less). After June I had been employed for awhile, and finally started to pick up enough hours to start paying off some of my debt. I've got one payment left for January on one source of debt and it's completely gone. Two more to go. A crap year, but it's shaping up better for 2012.

2. What do you expect from 2012?

I'm expecting an influx of money for the first 1/4 of the year (vacation pay, a three week paycheque month, and income tax return) which will put me financially in a much better position. I also hope to have another source of debt gone before the end of the year (only leaving my massive student loan). Money permitting I'm hoping to get myself an amp and cab (50 watt head and a 2x12 cab).

3. What are your New Years Resolutions?

1. Eat out even less than prior, save more money
2. Practice Guitar a lot more, at least an hour in the mornings (even if I have to wake up earlier)
3. Be a bit more active come spring, get in better shape

1) How was your 2011 in retrospect?
With all the tough moments I still think 2011 was a good year for me. I received a perpetual trolling target (some people call them 'sons').

2) What do you expect from 2012?
2012 will be a year of changes. Besides a zombie apocalipse desire, we have a lot of plans for this year ((my wife and I). If everything goes accordingly, I'll be enjoying a nice christmas in a place I always wanted to live (as atheist I must admit I enjoy that holiday.... there's never that amount of tasty food in any other season of the year xD).

3) What are your New Years resolution if you have any?
To keep myself focused in what I said above. Sometimes we drop our plans becase we don't even know how to start

1) How was your 2011 in retrospect?(Both personal/general)

I
t was ok. Quit my job, tried running my own business but I only give it an unrealistic amount of time. 6 months. I built a clientel and I was starting to profit around a stable 400$ a week and my numbers were going up...

But I ended up accepting a job offer. My current boss tried to recruit me when he learned I quit my last job, and 6 months later when we crossed, he let me know the offer still stood.

6 month in a new job and going well... but I still have this regret.
On one end this new job is very challenging and I learned so much. On the other being employed gives a stable 575 a week... and I consider this to be pnuts.

2) What do you expect from 2012?(again, can be both personal & general)

Be all out for my new job. Boss wants me to take leadership of the team, manage the scheduling and deal with all clients. If all goes well I can expect another raise (I got one after 6 months)

His job offer came with the possibility of becoming partner. If those words where in the air, I will retry myself at running my business.

(When I say business, it's myself and the I.T. services I offer.
PC's, Networking with SBS, Exchange, External Backups, VOIP...)

Thanks fiftyone :)
All the best to you and everyone else with their goals and dreams.

I must admit, secretly, I wouldn't really mind the following...

Sadly, there aren't many guns here in Montreal... so I would probably end up eaten by a zombie... maybe I would take down a few with my ski poles.

nothing.

For 2012 I expect...

...YOU to die, Mr. Bond!

More seriously, getting a job again would be nice. My job fell victim to local governent budget cuts. I was doing PR for the association of servcie providers for people with disabilites... When the budget cuts hit, the member of the provincial governement responsible for funding of said services basically said: "As long as the association can afford someone to do PR, I can cut funds." Long story short, I got axed last month.
