Okay everyone, this is just an idea and I found no similar game modes suggestions. I did find a 1v1 game mode suggestion thread but it is way off from my idea.

Please add or take away from my idea if you see fit but keep it PG-13 please (language/spam).

I think the next upcoming game should have a sniper 1v1 match between you and your buddy. This idea could be expandable to even a 3v3 type match. Or a 1v3. We all seen Enemy at the Gates and this is where my original idea came from.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Scenario:
Sniper 1 (Player). Russian. Starts somewhere on the map. He/She knows that there is now a German sniper sent to kill the person. (Like in the movie).

Objective (Russian):
The Russian's objective is to kill a high ranking German officer (NPC) somewhere on the map. Intelligence has given the Russian some sort of info as to the whereabouts to find the officer's location on the map but not exact location of course.

**Russian NPC's and German NPC's will be doing battle while the two snipers will be out hiding somewhere like snipers would be. This adds to the excitement element. Russian snipers could give away their positions depending on who/what they target.**

Objective (German):
Simple. German High Command has sent a sniper in to take care of the Russian sniper(s). The game mode will give suggestions to this player as to better opportunities for sniping locations. The player will have an advantage because if the Russian player makes a mistake which gives away their position than the German will get new Intel radioed in.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think this game mode can open up to a wide array of similar game modes. 3v3 sniper teams or even 3v1 sniper teams with the same idea could work.

With a background battle the snipers' will have to choose when to shoot; like if Artillery strikes go off so that their gun sounds are hidden. Of course shooting just a regular soldier may actually hurt your objective or make the game more difficult if the enemy NPC's are aware that there is a sniper (you) in the area. Also this will test the players skills in different ways like identifying officer NPCs from foot soldiers that are less daunting of targets.

Cool idea?

thanks. Depending on how Tripwire will set up the AI, the idea could easily be made into the game.

For TWI something like this would be very low priority, and i would not expect them to make it, they have more pressing things that needs to get done both pre and post release to support their big game-modes (adding more tanks and maps, any patching that must be done, and any work that must be done for the semi-official mod releases, all that stuff).

It would however be really easy for modders to make, extremely easy in fact, so i'd try getting some modders interested in the idea, then it could become a reality very quickly.

as a general rule, 1 vs 1 should never ever be attempted. if you want this style, set the server limits to 2 players and call it "sniper vs sniper" and see how fun it is.
Come on, if you don't care to read that's fine, but don't post anything then.

Obviously the traditional RO experience is those big battles and the epic realism.

When looking into the battles of Stalingrad, sure there were a lot of waves of sides clashing together. There were also a lot of behind the scenes action with sharpshooters which spawned the movie: Enemy at The Gates.

I just think it would be really cool to watch the NPC's go at it and try to work around those battles while trying to completed the kill objective. What better experience than to put a player sniper against you that gets in your way? :D

Also, snipers sometimes never really rolled around in singles. In fact, they would roll around in sniper teams. So a 3v3 setting would be appropriate for the action.

I would love to see something like this be implemented officially into the game. It would be another unique game mode that Tripwire could showoff, and it shouldn't bee too difficult to implement. I think it would be worth the team's time to invest in a game mode like this.
