I strongly dislike a "morale" mechanic in anything but strategy games. If I am stressed out under enemy fire or not should be dependant on me, and my ability to return fire should be based on my skill, and not some values hidden in the game mechanic.

I want a system that can be beatable by skill, although i want a system in place like increased sway. you can control and fire back if you have the skill but the real fear is simply missing from individual players. To truly suppress. Im a big fan of the dh supression system.

"Persistent Stats Tracking and Player Progression: Grow in rank, earn medals, improve abilities, and become a Hero – all visible to the complete online gaming community and embedded within the game."

Will mods be allowed?
Will it be like CoD4, ranked/unranked servers?

Can you imagine how dumb its going to be with a team of "heroes" battling another team of "heroes". Plenty of realism my ***. The thing so many fans of RO loved about it was you felt like a grunt battling other grunts. That's the historically accurate game we loved; that's the realism. The focus wasn't on being a hero like every other war game. Now, as if pulling a joke, we're getting a game actually based around being a hero? A hero in two notoriously despicable armies who raped, prostituted, and murdered civilians in the very battle the game is based on? No forget that fact, they weren't all bad. There were some very admirable soldiers just trying to get by, gaining xp to be a hero. Realism.

Bow to the almighty dollar of the masses and pretend the integrity is still there.

Personally, I think these unlockables will allow for a greater arsenal of weapons and equipment to be put in the game. Not everyone can use a weapon that wasn't widely available or standard issue. Just make sure ranking up is really hard to accomplish so that everybody isn't a three-star general like in Battlefield 2.

The only way this can turn out good is if only the top 20 or so people on the rankings are allowed hero status. And I'm very wary of how they are going to stand out. If it's just being able to put designs on your helmet or add facial features like a scar or war paint or something just to make you distinguishable thats pretty awesome. A chest full of medals not so much.

However, I dont see the unlockables going anywhere good at all. Thats just a CoD gimmick. If it screws up the role system the realism will probably be completely destroyed.

I'm not totally writing this off yet but this isn't a good sign. How you can introduce this feature to your realism fan base and not expect an immediate backlash is beyond me. It would be comforting if TW told us exactly how it was going to work. At this point, knowing the game is going to be on consoles, hinting at arcade features and only reassuring the hardcore fans by saying theres "PLENTY of realism" isn't very comforting.

Perks for public play can enhance fun. For the general crowd.

If it means less important stuff like more stamina, less fear, more stability when aiming, maybe more speed. etc.

NO.

This is not KF, everybody should be totally equal in terms of gameplay(and I mean stamina, "fear" BS, sway and speed). Hence realistic core gameplay.

I'd be terribly disappointed with TWI if they introduce unlocks/abilites that give players advantage in terms of gameplay.

Yea, real useful commentary I see from the usual crowd.

One who refuses to comment, one who goes on a tirade about something he knows nothing about (perhaps he got turned into a newt, he seemed to have gotten better by his second post), and yet another who seems to need to find a stuffed bear to hug.

Wait for more information before you go off the deep end at least. If you still don't like what you know at that point, feel free to post your disagreement in a civil manner and Tripwire, like always, will take it under review.

Yeah, wait until you see some implementation before you judge the damn thing. You're reading too much into PR speak.

Good grief... nice to know that some people think we have learned nothing over the last 7 (count them, "seven") years of Red Orchestra...

Will this be "CoD b/s"? No.
Will we have a bunch of l33t uber-soldaten running around with a massive chestful of medals? No.
Will higher-ranked players get more "hit-points"? More "damage"? No.

I could go on, but I won't. Just suggest that a few people engage first their brains (and go dig them out from wherever they've been hiding) and then engage their imaginations intelligently and start to think what these sort of features might give you in the RO style. Think about the changes we have wrought over the years - once upon a time, we argued about the possibility of introducing vehicles, ffs. And look where we have moved to date.

So: engage brains, consider that we have been thinking over some of the functionality you will see in "Heroes" for years. We have been building this franchise for years. And if you still think we'd just drop all the stuff we've done all that time, well, fine.

Stop jumping to idiot conclusions based on one sentence in a press release. Think what TRIPWIRE might actually be intending to offer the realism fans out there.

Have faith :)

Well for clanplay or IC like tournaments i completely agree with your opinion, and clans and competetive sites will probably use mutators if not possible ingame to control and supress any individual advantages.

For public play however, i want nothing too obvious, but slight changes could offer some incidentive for people to play longer, finding love for the game and possibly searching for a clan, ending up with a possible bigger pool of clanplayers (which is my personal goal of publicplay).

People were not exactly all equal in the real word either, for some people it was their first fight for others it was one of many fights (although arguably this could be fully accounted already by ingame skill rather than any artificial needs, where with this its possibly only making stronger players stronger).

Personally im more of a fan of achievements being dynamically skill based rather than based on howmany unnatural things you've done and time you've played in total.

Now fear is lacking by default in any game and DH's supression system is one system of fear i think could help the flow of the gameplay to become more realistic, it just should never give the player the feeling that he doesnt control his own character anymore.

Maybe heroes for the German side playing as assault troops could get access to prototype Stg.44's/MP 43's, and access to more appropriate winter uniforms and camo.

I wonder how the moral system will work. Maybe it will work a bit like Resistance & Liberation's system.

It really goes to show how cynical so many of us are about video gaming. Some of us seem to be expecting a sell out and will jump on any detail to show the impending failure and "selling out to the man" ... or whatever the hell.

Judging by TWI's track record there is no reason to believe that they've thrown realism out the window with these additions. It's safe to say that despite COD and their ilk using the same type of experience system, that TWI could implement it well. We're acting like TWI will just port over the COD system directly.

Take a friggin breath and relax. Basically, we still don't know **** about the game yet.

[TW]Wilsonam, true fans of RO are just afraid of where RO2 is going. Some of those news sound strange for us and are more like CoD/MoH/arcade games features. You know: your fans're waiting for next Red Orchestra. If you say

i think we should'n be afraid, calm down and wait for gameplay video or something "real" of RO:HoS. Take your time and wait.

I consider myself a true fan of RO and I'm not afraid, I have faith in TWI that they will make an awesome realistic game with unique features, all that COD!! whining is pure paranoya and close mindedness.

I would be disappointed if the game was exactly the same RO but in the new engine because I personally like UE2.5 more than UE3, and just an engine port wouldn't justify the new game.

I wonder tho, how will they do so in a year or 2 into the game everybody is not a hero, I would say the status of a hero have to be maintained by playing constantly or something like that, because if not, there will be hero infestation
