RO (mod) was way more important than RO2.

This is not such a massive step forward. Its a good game, but it is suffering from lack of playerbase. Im in Australia. There are only about 100-200 people tops that play the game regularly. That equates to about a 3/4 filled server on a rolling basis.

But thats not the point.

RO mod was sublime. SO different.

RO2 is just RO mod, but simpler, less punishing, and with unlocks.

I long to be back in the RO mod days when you knew you belonged to something special.

This is not game of the year material.

For me it was simply too bugged and it had dead ends in the solo campaign, how can anybody play this?
And I had this in arma1,2 and the addon.

Bud, I don't touch the campaigns in those games. the OFP resistance campaign was great though.

ARMA series is all about the mission editor and online play.

My buy of the year.

This is a great game !

Just coming from an amazing combat at Commisar House, I was German, the Soviets were very good, using good tactics and teamwork, always trying to encircle our strong positions. At one point the Germans were reduced to only a couple of the northern capzones.
I was an Elite Rifleman placed at a window of the red northermost building, it was a great fight, shooting at Russians that were shooting at us from the Commissar's House windows, shooting down at those who were trying to enter our building, throwing grenades when they lay a smoke cover, then leaving the windows and go to the stairs to repel those who had made it and entered the building. Really a great fight, very tense, very demanding, trying to stay as covered as possible on one side of the window and watching one's back. I was killed twice but managed to regain my position. Then, at some point, that great victory music of the beautiful soundtrack started, that moment was amazing, I understood we had made it, the Soviets had no more reinforcements and just a couple of minutes were left. Really a great battle in a great game.

HOS is a bag of gimmicks, it looks cool at first, perhaps even for the first hundred hours, but you will eventually wake up to find that you are playing a shadow of what the game could have been.

There is no way that HOS ( even minus all of its current bugs ) will be alive in a year, never mind the five that Ost survived for. That is assuming some large changes arent made. ( I have little doubt that a lot of players will come back to play the mods, but RO2 itself will be empty when mods come out, I have a hard time thinking of people playing standard RO2 over something like the fire and maneuver mod. )

Yes I had high hopes for 3 games this year,
3 games I waited a long time for.

IL2 Cliffs of Dover
Total War - Shogun2
RO2

RO2 is the only one worth the wait.
RO2 worth more that I paid for it.

Nah, the only one worth the wait for me was Shogun 2. After the disappointing Empire TW and Napoleon TW, I think Shogun 2 is better than I expected.

RO2 now (after patching the most bugs) is playable for me and it looks beautiful. However, the gameplay is different.

To give a very easy to understand comparison:
RO is like your wife, pretty for her age, reliable and keeps you staying with her because she gives you that feeling...
RO 2 is like your lover, sexy in appearance, a fast fix for your urgent needs, but nothing special and deep to stay for the long run...

Hmm..
To me RO2 is just that asshole who keeps saying RO2 is a better game because the graphics are better and new mechanics of the game makes it superior to RO1.

135 hours into RO2 multiplayer and find it to be the most immersive /
challenging / feel-like-you-are-in-the-middle-of-a-WWII-movie /
game I have ever played.

Action-filled beautifully rendered maps, great sound, great visual effects,
and ever challenging multi-player maps. It plays well and never relents in action.

This too > at 135 hours it only cost .29 cents / hour !
An inexpensive way to unwind

My buy of the year.
agree .. wish i could get the money back for bf3 ,but i have to admit the sp campaign was great. no matter what reviews say.

The Magic is in the Cap Zone - either attacking from it to Cap the next one -
or defending the current one depending on the momentum of the battle.

The times you'll feel like you are in a WWII Movie goes way up in those areas.
