I'm not a marksmen or anything, nor have I shot assault rifles...but newer games seem like they just eschew most ballistics in favor of what's most fun. Bullet drop physics, and a shooting from the hip that is representative of not aiming down the sights with recoil, ect...
So, games where shooting from the hip can be done at a couple hundred yards isn't real enough...and games where scoped at a couple hundred yards, snazzy assault rifles with almost no recoil still have shots coming out of the barrel screwy...that's trying too hard.
