1. Stripping of games and making them easier and easier...arcadish and for unskilled/casual players only(MW2, BC2, OpFl2)
2. Making PC FPS game as console port or w/o optimalization for PC ( MW2, BC2)
3. Lack of basic features fps games like demo recording, console access, spectacor view (MW2, BC2, OpFl2)
4. Lack of dedicated server or dedi server files for everyone, server tools, admin tools, player tools (MW2, BC2, OpFl2)
5. Lack of anti-piracy and anti-cheat tools/protections (OpFl2)
6. high tech HUD, GPS, radar, younameit - wasn't a part of the default 3rd Reich soldier loadout
7. Kill per Death on scoreboard, RO games suppost to be teamplayer games, not for lone wolfes who takes care of frags only, scoreboard should show only scorepoints (like in Ostfront) (MW2, BC2)
8. unlimited player class role, we need RO:O system, like only 1 sniper, MG, officer per team (BC2)
9. Balanced to hell - overpowered classes, each class should have pros and cons, not only good sides. Like rifle can easly shoot down smg player at distance but in CQF smg has advantage, etc (BC2)
10. Put your suggestion here!

TWI, i believe in your words about realism and gameplay, but please dont make those mistakes. They kills PC FPS gameplay badly...

I would add something that is not gameplay related, but was a problem with RO: cornerpeeking!

(the totally unrealistic fact that you could see further in the edges of the screen than in the center - it should be equal!)
yeah it was a engine problem, lets see how U3 handle this...

I would like to see a point/death ratio perhaps. But with a point system its important to do it right though.

As with Roost for example nobody bothers with defending a location on a multi cap map. So after capping a location people leave it immediately and go to the next place to get 10 points, rather than defending the location they just obtained.

Like with fire teams some people should go in the cap to take the objective, some should cover them from a distance.

That is an issue happing on every game that is projected on a flat screen with a reasonably reasonably wide Fov. So unless you get monitors that are curved around your head you won't stop the issue. If that deformation won't happen you get the idea of looking out of a fish bowl.

Speaking of Bad Company 2:

Crappy level design! They still haven't learned that the defenders should NOT spawn next to the objectives they are defending!

But I'm quite sure that this won't be the case with rohos, as it never was with RO:Ostfront.

In odessa you spawn pretty much next to the objective you defend. Its nearly impossible to put some of your guys between the capzone and their spawn, the distance is like what 10 meters?

add:
  • medkits and player revival upon "death"
  • weapon upgrades, unlockables
  • perk ability upgrades
  • infantry class manning tanks/planes/helicopters
  • vehicle repairs
obviously there are more than 10 sins, but the first 10 posted were pretty major

you forgot the health regeneration... that is even worse than the medkits.

at least with medkits sometimes you are left with very little HP and can find challenging sections in which you have to be very careful if there is no medkit around

You guys forget that HoS will feature a "bandage system" that is proberly similar to a medikit. ...

I think that the bandage system will only help on some minor wounds so you don't bleed out. It doesn't appear it will be anything at all like the medkits we are used to seeing in other games. But only time will tell.

That's not really the problem. The issue is that the game draws a box around your player to determine view/fog distances. So you can actually see further at the edges of your screen than at the middle. So if there's an area where the enemy might be hiding that just on the edge of the fog, you can turn to the side so that objective is on the edge of your perhipherial vision and the fog will roll back a bit. So you can see them before they can see you, unless they're doing the same thing. Now, you can't SHOOT people like that, but it's still unrealistic and exploitable in many ways.

Here's an image to illustrate, the circle on the left would be the "ideal" draw geometery:

It's really an engine problem though, and not limited to UE 2.5. All Source games also have this same flaw as far as I know.

Thx for your voice over here.

Cornerpicking, well i have to admin i use it sometimes. Its engine issue. I believe it will works diffrent @ Unreal Engine 3.X

The such things like medkits and other stuff weren't so much important for me so i didn't put them on the list. Im even not against it in games like Battlefield series. It kinda work in BF2. Maybe cos i accepted the fact BF2 is pure arcade, but AFAIR there wasnt such things in Vietnam which was much realistic. In RO:HOS we will get bandages to stop bleeding from not serious wounds, not to heal up/revive player.

Anticheat thread, well for me VAC is worst AC ever. I much like PB and dedicated clanwars programms which make screenshots of players screen every X minutes for example.

Perks, unlocks, etc might work if we call it specializations and make realistic. For example we can have recon unit that can have 2 specializations: sniping or scouting. So, player can decide what playstyle he wants to play. It might be also be fine for tanks. For example Tiger tank driver can select upgrade - he can get new ammo type or faster turret traverse speed (AFAIR Tigers got something that in WWII) But yea im totally against perks like +50% to damage, armor, stun etc :p

edit: in 4th point i forgot mod tool. Its ridiculous when community cannot mod game like they want. ROs mods are just awesome... can't imagine HoS w/o that.

Haha too true Fed, I think health regen is the worst thing to happen to games in the last decade.

I agree that FPS's have been going down the toilet in the last 10 years. But for number 7, I LOVE keeping track of my body count. I savor my kills, but I also complete objects like I was a machine dedicated to completing mission objectives that enjoys to kill as many mofos as I can along the way. :p

So how about a ratio system of some kind, keep a record of kills, and keep a record of objectives completed in a separate score line and use some kind of system to add it up in the end... because hard core killers in game can also help with objectives by reducing the enemy population :p

There probably needs to be two lists, one for MP and one for SP, the two don't allways share the same problems.

Not being an RO fan (back off, I have enough knives for all of you), many of these don't bother me. The cardinal sin in my book though is:

2. Making PC FPS game as console port or w/o optimalization for PC ( MW2, BC2)
This is the reason I won't buy BC2, even though it looks sick and my friends and I have been playing BF2 for years. The overall quality of FPS on the PC is not what it was five years ago; the games don't handle better now that they're ports, they don't make maximum use of PC hardware where it's available, they don't include the standard server browsers, customization options or mod potential. The games are getting prettier, and the gameplay is becoming ever more cool....but they don't handle as well.

Which is ironic because PCs are STILL the platform of choice for gaming. (I think they're still in the 50% range compared to the console market.)

Gameplay elements....whatever. Those come and go. It's the core functionality of FPS that is really bugging me these days. I may end up getting RO:HoS and trying it again, just so I can have a FPS that is DESIGNED for PCs rather than consoles. (And so I can support TWI since there's no new KF stuff on the horizon.)

halo is the biggest sin of fps gaming. it continues to taint fps titles to this day.

also EA sucks cuz there are no mods for the battlefield series that are easy to install or use (much less run from within the original installation). there are also no mutators or anything to change the default gameplay in little or big ways. They just want us to continue playing their gamemodes in the way they designed it and not let us do what we want with their games even though it wouldn't be difficult to allow us to do that.

Why? BECAUSE THAT WOULDN'T WORK WITH THE CONSOLE VERSIONS AND THEY'RE LAZY.
