1 Mbps interwebs a legal right in Finland, 100 Mbps by 2015

Pretty cool. Internet is much more important to me and my need for information than TV yet its TV which is a legal right in Germany. Kudos to the Finish government for going with the times.

yup and if i have an TV at home i even have to pay for it regardeless if i use it or not
Finns have to pay "media fee" for the same purpose. Even if they don't own a tv.

Well it's the arguement that most people will use it and it will be cheaper/more efficient/better because it is done everywhere for everyone in bulk and such.

Just a note: Legal right doesn't make it free. With that logic, the second amendment of US constitution would mean that every US citizen would get a gun for free to carry it around.

..but it means people in outlying areas cant be denied the effort of connecting them, or price gouged because of where they live. (I'm assuming price regulation is a part of this law ..? ..certain amount of guaranteed uptime etc..)

No, I don't think that price regulation is part of this law. Prices will regulate itself when every ISP has to provide at least 1 Mbps, then it's just a matter of who can sell them at the lowest price (unless they're using 3g wireless network or something, then it can be slower I heard).

but there is nothing to stop them charging what they want? Sure you can have 100mb, thats 500 Euros per month please.

Then another ISP will just sell it for lower price. The prices should go pretty down if there isn't a price cartel or something.

a couple of years back i was in the middle of the woods in a village/town close to the russian border. They already had 2mbit internet while i had only 1mbit at home.
