    What if Germany won WW2......

There's actually a book called "How Hitler Could Have Won World War Two." It's a pretty interesting read if you're into analyzing war strategies and tactics. The author goes over every major battle and identified what the Germans did wrong and what they should have done instead. I think the...

Just brought my first rifle home.

Get one through CMP for around $500. I was very close to doing this but opted to go with a Mosins and SKS's instead. Btw, you can probably pick up a Century FAL battle rifle for $550. The main advantage it has over the Garand is that it uses detachable magazines. But of course, the Garand has...

    shotgun?

They were used extensively in World War One as highly effective trench sweepers. In fact, the wounds they inflected were so gruesome that the Germans considered them immoral weapons of war and tried to get them banned. I haven't heard anything about shotguns being used in World War Two...

Soup Nazi, if your rifle is clean (read my post about paying extra attention to the firing pin) and if you know how to operate it safely (I'm assuming this isn't your first gun), go out and shoot. If you have any SKS questions, I highly recommend www.sksboards.com for all of your needs. In...

    8mm Mauser vs concrete block!

The problem is that these weapons ARE history. But I suppose we could have one forum for discussing firearms and tanks and another forum specifically about historical battles.

Just brought my first rifle home.

Guns are designed to chamber forcefully. If you ease the bolt forward, there's the possibility that perhaps the bolt won't close all the way. If you're in a combat situation, that's not a good thing. So yes, it is recommended that you let the bolt fly forward under it's spring force and don't...

    Ammunition!

More or less. Assuming a .45ACP has about 490 joules of muzzle energy: http://world.guns.ru/ammo/am02-e.htm Then, with simple physics... Energy= Mass x Gravity x Height Energy= 50 kg x 9.8 m/s^2 x 1 meter Energy= 490 joules So we're talking about trying to catch a small woman dropping from a...

Anytime I hear "Color Guard" I think of George Clooney and a big KKK ceremony. "The Color Guard is colored!"

    Ammunition!

Yeah, though the .30 Carbine wasn't bad. But it could have used more power for longer ranges: http://world.guns.ru/ammo/am03-e.htm

    Ammunition!

I totally agree with you. However, I think the only one that stands even the tiniest chance of happening is the gas-piston uppers. There's no way the military would switch to 7.62x39... pride and logistics.

It's time for me to show you mine! M38 & M44 Action Videos!

Indeed! I've shot 7.62x54R Wolf through my M44 and that KICKS and I ended up putting one of those slide-on rubber recoil pads. But it doesn't kick nearly as much as my 12 gauge shotgun with 3 inch MAGNUM shells. OMG. That kick is literally in the elephant-gun class. Fortunately my Remington 870...

The laminated Russian 91/30 is a 1939 Ishzvek arsenal. :) So it may have seen some real combat, but the bore and the gun overall is in excellent condition. The blonde Russian M44 is a 1948 Ishzvek arsenal. Also excellent condition.

    Ammunition!

Yes but 5.55 NATO has a hell of a lot more velocity than .22LR. That gives it significantly more penetration. There's a solution, though NATO's pride won't let them accept it. It's called 7.62x39 mm. The original and best. Hits hard, offers incredible penetration, light weight, and low recoil...

    Ammunition!

No, I'm talking about the FBI studies after the Miami shooting incident. Btw, the reason the 9mm failed the FBI in the Miami incident was because their HP's didn't penetrate enough and stopped short of one of the suspects' hearts. Despite delivering a mortal blow, the guy kept fighting... and...

Well you at least need the bolt carrier because it has the clip groove. Whatever you do, I advise against chambering a live round until you are more familiar with your gun. And of course, point it in a safe direction anyway.

Just brought my first rifle home.

First, try sliding just 1 round up and down the clip. Make sure the round can move along the clip smoothly. Sometimes clips will have burrs or rough edges that you might want to touch up with a file. Put the rifle on your lap, looking into the magazine, with the barrel facing left. Ok, now put...
