@Gautrek: Erm, as a point of fact (according to wikipedia. But its close to teh figures I was taught at school).
Casualties:
WW1- 21 Million. Just over a 1:1 military:civilian ratio
WW2- 72 Million. Almost a 2:1 ratio of civilian to military deaths.
Why is ww2 relavent today? To remind...
Whats with all the negativity guys? Its a free mod. Yep, it needs work, but its a Beta.
There is a lot to sort out on many of the maps- particularly Cagny, st Lo and Omaha, and yeah the bazooka is ropey. By the same token ive had some of the most epic RO experiences so far (bar...
For me its got to be the Enfield and Bren gun- brilliant weapons both. I love the way you can charge in as a paratrooper firing the bren from the hip. Lets me replay some scenes from the Commando comics i read when I was 12 :D And the enfield seems to have a faster bolt time which i just...
Hi, just wanted to mention to those having issues with the patches- I patched using the installer and had tons of issues; however doing a full re-install with the patched game solved them. Now DH runs like a dream.
In short- try uninstalling it (I deleted the DH folder and that was all i could...
Isnt the Mamaev a tumulus (burial mound)? If the whole thing is a burial mound then I would expect the soil to be generally loose so the latter idea seems reasonable.
EDIT- ok, stalingrad is in a region of deep loess soils (>5m) http://www.ufz.de/data/European_Loess_Map_hires7613.jpg These...
Looking great- Im amazed at how quickly your pulling this together!
I think fox holes and fighting pits would be good- as well as plenty of shell holes. Ideally there should just enough space between them that you can dash from cover to cover. Fox holes and sandbags would be useful in...
The problem with using google earth is that the height data it contains is SRTM (Shuttle radar topography mission) data that was collected in 2000 and will include modern structures in it and has a relatively coarse resolution of 90m. SRTM tends to suffer from height spikes and areas of missing...
On small maps I actually prefer the STG over the MP40- its has a tighter spread and has far better stopping power. As long as you can hipshoot well then a short burst to the chest and most people are down.
Of course if I come across a PPSh then all bets are off :D
THe great thing about the STG is that the single burst is quite well clustered so you can generally kill with a single burst out to quite a good range, and even if you dont it has greater suppressive effect.
Ive got alot of sympathy for newbies and think that we can be a rather unfriendly lot- having said that it is rather inconsiderate when people turn up and take key roles without having played the game before. Before I first went online I played around with each of the classes against bots-...
At most ranges I tend to stay on FA. I find small, controlled bursts effective out to a few hundred metres. If rested and camping then single shots are good- not least for the smaller muzzle flash.
Well, im voting for mamayev (or Mamaev) Kurgan obviously enough :)
Theres a great 3d view of the battle here: http://members.boardhost.com/stalingrad/msg/1169701178.html
and a very interesting website too:

One of teh maps id love to see done (and to my knowledge doesnt exist yet) is Mameyev Kurgan in Stalingrad: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamayev_Kurgan
Could be a great battle over a limited battlefield- germans fighting to get to the summit; russians desperately holding on. The trick would be...
YEah, Ive had some excellent games on Kreigstadt for that very reason! I had an outstanding game last night on TWB- Leningrad. On defense The team held ATgun for the whole round- excellent teamwork and communication with people covering all the entryways into the cap. The only downside was...
The in-game server browser is also one of my greatest bugbears (next to ranzig 24/7 etc); I hate the fact that servers look populated then you click on them and discover actually there are no players on the server. Also using the steam browser doesnt always work for me- occasionally crashes RO...
