Door portholes in BioticsLab: Exploit or No?

I'm looking for official word from TWI as to whether or not being able to fire through the portholes on BioticsLab is an exploit or not

There is a player that has "declared" that firing anything through those portholes is an exploit, especially if it involves lobbing M32/79 against the far wall, destroying specimens before they can touch the door.
Supposedly he even goes so far as to grenade the doors open when someone is using this 'exploit' and justifies it as being "fair play"

Having toyed around with UnrealEd enough, I disagree on this "exploit". It would be quicker and easier to just make a door with solid collision and a glass texture than to adjust the collision to allow weapon fire to pass through the porthole

So, is that an exploit or is this guy just a griefer that I should ignore?

IMO Demolitions explosives should destroy doors just like grenades do.

A good Support Specialist can keep a door locked down in BioLab by chucking a grenade through the port hole and immediately welding to repair it.

To me that's a fair tactic because it requires some talent to pull off.

Demo weapons don't affect the doors at all, which should be remedied.

Door portholes an exploit..? How stupid is that. It might be unfair to the specimens (lol) to use a nadelauncher or a flamer through the door holes but I wouldnt go as far as calling it an exploit and destroying the doors if someone uses this so called tactic. Altho I agree its annoying when people use it, but I see it done with firebug more often surprisingly.

Btw I agree that the grenade launchers should destroy doors aswell. Pipes too actually.

I've seen FB's do this alot and personally I destroy the doors because it is a VERY boring way to play. Jump fire...jump fire...jump fire....it certainly doesn't make you any better of a player and when the sh*t does hit the fan if you rely on these types of tactics you'll probably be the first to die.

Yes I agree that all explosives should blow welded doors.

Is it an exploit...I'd say no...but it is a cheap way to play and as stated above it does not make you a better player at all.

They have already answered through their actions. This is not a subtle thing in the level. It's not like you have to crawl to some corner duck and jump slide along some half-noclip ledge to reach. TWI knows this is there and for numerous patches they haven't changed it. Know why? Because they put it there on purpose.

This player is an idiot and if they act in such a way on my server they'll get the banstick (normally a kickstick but this person clearly lacks IQ so will be annoying in other ways I'm sure).

I think the real purpose of your post is to get reassurance that others feel the way you do about this. We do. It's not an exploit by any means and that player is indeed a griefer. You should initiate a kick vote and if it fails, quit yourself.

I saw this tactic used for the first time earlier today and I have to say I thought it was clever. I was the one responsible for keeping the weld solid and it got tense when we ended up with three fleshpounds, a couple sirens, and a scrake knocking at the same time. It was fun. I guess it would get boring if done too much though.

How do you do it Wrong?

How I usally do it wrong:

Red stairway, standing on the rail shooting through the left portal to get crap way down the hall. Someone else stand in front of the door and jumps repeatedly firing a few rounds through the hole. I screw up my timing and FF them in the back of the head. I'm well inside the blast radius. Strangly I only learn from this for a short period before I do it again. *sigh*

What I should be doing: Stand back a bit to the right then lob them through the left portal and into the corner of the wall outside. For ones further away shoot through the right portal to the 4" pipe near the ceiling.

How I see others usually doing it wrong:

Door is about to blow (say 25% and dropping fast) and everyone backs up some and depends on the pipebombs (1-3 of em nearby) to take care of things. Well the pipebombs do actually work fine. Once. Then everyone ends up in the corner of the red room and dies.

Instead what should be done: Hold that spot as long as possible but once the door is about to break abandon the whole spot and move downstairs and all the way to the end of the hall (near U room).

Unfortunately for some(see: aforementioned player), TWI's actions(or lack of) is not the same as actually saying "Sorry but we believe this is/isn't an exploit"

I've never actually played with the person online and if I ever did end up on the same server as him, I wouldn't even ready up, I'd just find something else
Besides, my preferred way to play Biotics is with the Support perk. Shotty + XBow* and use the grouping effect the corridors have on the specs to take out clusters all at once

*Same guy says xbow is overpowered and requires a nerfing :|

I think it's a really really clever tactic. If we start banning clever tactics because they work really well, we might as well just not play the game, since we seem to prefer losing.
According to you using exploits would always be clever tactics. Which they are. But its not fair.

The words ''since we seem to prefer losing'' at the end of your reaction are exaggerated and bigoted.

I noticed this trend also.

(insert weapon name here) is op and makes the game too easy. here is an easy fix dont use that wepon if you think that way use one step down.

According to some we should only get swissarmy knives and bubblegum
