8600GT - Not Getting the Settings Hoped For

I have an XFX 8600GT, it has 256mb of ram and a decent clock speed.
http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/products/graphiccards/8series/8600gt.aspx#2

I am not getting the performance I would expect from an engine as old as UE 2.5 (despite how modified for this game it is.)

Windows 7 64-bit
4 GBs of RAM
Q6600 processor (quad core, each @ 3.0 ghz)
A 7200rpm hard drive that has been defragged and checked for errors.

I have stress tested all of these components and have determined it is a software issue.

@ a resolution of 1600 x 900, I can only run the game on 'Medium' settings. Any higher and it dips bellow 20 frames.

I have done all the basic no brainer stuff, verify files, delete ini's, update drivers, defrag, and shut down background processes.

Tell me if I am wrong, but shouldn't this game run at least 'High' for me?

It does see a performance increase on lower resolutions, it has to right?

But even running at 1280x1024 in windowed mode, fire brings it down below 20 frames again.

But seriously, in a 1280x1024 screen, shouldn't I be able to run it maxed out?
The specs are more than adequate, and despite the game being single-threaded, the cpu (even one core) should be more than enough.

Well the FPS is mostly to do with your GPU and yes your GPU should be fine. Unless under higher resolution they have some kind of filters and or shaders that make the game look better and your GPU gets slugish. But I really have no idea because of yet I have not seen the game on my PC :/

Yeah, this seems to be a driver issue.

For comparison, I got this setup:
-Intel core2duo @ 2.13Ghz
-4GB DDR2 RAM
(-only 3.5G usable thanks to WinXP HOME 32bit)

And I can run everything maxed at 1920x1200 resolution. Just left AA to 2x for minor boost, haven't even tried anything more since jaggies are pretty much nonexistent with this resolution anyways.

If it was a driver issue, is there anything I can do other than use the current drivers from nVidia?

The drivers were last updated on October 5th, and those are the ones installed.

I guess it's just a waiting game?

So your running these i expect.

sorry it doesnt say when it was updated. Also try this http://www.perfectdisk.com/ one of the forum moderators sent me it and it increased my frames by like 20. use the offline defrag mode. Also its a 30 day demo so save the exe and reinstall once a month if it works. Or just buy it. Normal defrags(windows built in) didnt do much for me but this program really helped.

-_- sorry the only thing I missed was the date. Also with a card like that I wouldn't go past the 1200x800 mark as far as it comes to resolution. It's a 60 dollar card so It can't be expected to play crysis on high. But killing floor I dont understand why it isn't working. Just lower your resolution because an 8600GT isn't really a card that should go up to the super high resolutions.

1200x800 isn't a high resolution.

The funny thing is that I can run Batman:Arkham Asylum MAXED out at my native 1600:900 resolution with AA and AF all the way up.

That's a much more demanding game, using UE 3.

Then I blame killing floor itself. I think the game also might be using textures a little over the top for the engine. I think they did a great job as it looks waay better than HL2. As for your problem im completely stumped.

I guess it's just because Killing Floor is trying to fit into shoes that don't fit?

The fact that I can run Batman at full settings means the driver theory is out right?

Also, a buddy of mine with an nvidia 200 series (260 I believe) noticed a HUGE frame drop when he alt tabbed and tabbed back into the game. It was followed by a crash.

His computer has been stress tested just like mine and he runs Crysis regularly and also does some model work, said that it was the first time his comp crashed in over 6 months.

What is up with you Killing Floor?
