Please, improve the lighting and character models please. The Unreal Engine 3's texturing is filth, shiny textures are used as a sorry excuse for bump mapping, and in RO:HOS's case, the character models look absolutely rubbish.
Seen here, the building and character uniforms are...sadly...****e. Low resolution and low quality:http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp-content/gallery/rohos-screenshots/mg_final.jpg
Perhaps Tripwire should stick to UE2.5, the graphics are much more appealing than what has been shown so far [not very much, but nontheless dissapointing].
In some screenshots the player models look like they have been lazily photoshopped into the shot. Their colours do not match the environment surrounding them. Also included in this shot, are some green cereal bowls which seem to be photoshopped on top of the 'cut-and-paste' character models: http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp-content/gallery/rohos-screenshots/mg_final.jpg
In addition to this, the faces of the player models have a 'plastic' look to them: http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp-content/gallery/rohos-screenshots/Basement_Tactical.jpg & http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp-content/gallery/rohos-screenshots/ScreenShot00136.jpg
They look much worse than those in the original RO:41-45. Please improve on these faces, I'd prefer the player models to represent human-beings, not action figures. Although I will admit the face behing the player in the foreground looks 200% better. However, the same issue is seen here, in addition to the low quality uniforms and bodies: http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp-content/gallery/rohos-screenshots/traincoverv2.jpg
Upon looking at the above screenshot, you can also see UE3's 'next gen bump mapping' in action. Honestly...way to go UE3, those textures are looking mighty fine as usual:http://media.teamxbox.com/games/ss/1942/full-res/1215358388.jpg
As it stands, I am deeply dissapointed with the direction in which Tripwire is taking this game's visuals. Not all are terrible, some of the screenshots are great, especially this one: http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp-content/gallery/rohos-august-screenshots/rooftop_battle.jpg
However, as stated above, there are many issues. The character models look as though they are out of place, or 'photoshopped' into the screenshots and the faces...if those are the way the faces will be looking, I'm going to be praying for a balaclava mod. The textures...oh man, UE3 is notorius for terrible textures and the ridiculous SHINY 'everything'. Yes, if all gameplay elements promised are delivered it will make an amazing game. However, a rule I live by will apply here; no matter how nice a girl is, if she looks like a baboon's arse, you can be sure I won't be humping her. Graphics DO matter. They enhance the immersion and entire experience.
