Tactics Patriarch Weakspot

Alright, to start off, this is mere speculation with minimal experimentation.

I was digging through the SDK files for my own reasons when I stumbled upon this:

Pattyeye.png

As you can see the Patty's "Head Bone" is his eye. A lot of weakspots on other ZEDs are considered their "Head Bone". This of course sparked my interest so I fired up a short game by myself on suicidal.

I got to the Patriarch round, switched to Sharpshooter level 3 and repeatedly shot him in the head with the crossbow without any regard to his eye. In general it took 3 shots to make him run. (I died quite a bit to get enough of consistent data but I did get something)

Now on to the eye, I've noticed that the eye pops out whenever he's about to:

Use his Minigun,
Use his Rocket Launcher,
When he's running at you,
and When he's using certain melee attacks.

Since the latter two are stupidly hard to get "eye shots" on I tested on the former. So any time he was about to use his minigun or about the shoot a rocket with his eye out I quickly took aim with a crossbow and shot it. Each time I did this he consistently dropped to his knee and ran within a single crossbow bolt to the eye as opposed to 3 or so just aiming for the head.

So here are the basics:

Solo play level 3 Sharpshooter on Suicidal mode can make the Patriarch consistently run with a single crossbow bolt when his eye is out. This is much harder to pull off at times than a regular head shot because he only does this during certain animations but during two of them he stands still to make it easier.

If anyone can confirm this on multiple player games and do some extensive research into this (like I said I did minimal experimentation with it, only enough to make it a plausible idea) it'd be greatly appreciated, but I do think I'm on to something.

Good god...that might actually make the law useful!

Probably not. The LAW is a complete piece of garbage. It dishes out 650 damage per shot with 3.25 seconds between each shot, the crossbow brings the pain every 1.81 seconds with 1200 damage on a headshot... BEFORE sharpshooter perks. At level 5 a sharpshooter can put out 2700 damage every .9 seconds if he keeps getting headshots (if he's level 5 I sure hope he can...).

If you could try this with other weapons and get it on video. You will be one of the most famous KF players in history!
I don't think it'd work, there's no other weapon that could deal enough damage in the specified area before he withdraws his eye again, I'm not sure though I can always try with Commando. The attack has to be precise.

EDIT:

I just ran a suicidal short game again on my level 5 Support Specialist I used the Crossbow with SS too because it's the tried and true weapon so far. Keep in mind the SS gets NO bonus for the Crossbow.

2 out of 4 times a single crossbow bolt, still on Solo/Suicidal using a class with no headshot/crossbow bonus made him drop to go run to heal, spawning more enemies.

1st time he tried using his chaingun, popped (In his eye), dropped, and ran.
2nd time he tried using his rocket and I hit him once (not sure if I hit the eye dead on), he fired, hit a cluster of clots in front of me and I brought him down for the second time with the shotgun.
3rd time same story rocket but apparently I hit dead on this time and he dropped and ran, spawning more enemies.
4th time he just outright killed me with melee attacks/chaingun since I didn't have a chance to line up another shot.

Also, my upload speed isn't the greatest (to upload videos on youtube etc...) but I could always try. I'd probably use god mode though to prevent just outright screw ups and to show the theory.

what

as far as I know it is:

LAW does 900 dmg
xbow does 300 dmg without perk (450 at lv5 sharpshooter)
xbow does 1800 dmg with no perk (4050 dmg at lv5 sharpshooter)

I got my numbers from KF wiki, I haven't seen any other numbers so I assume they're correct *shrug*

Either way the crossbow comes out far far ahead of the LAW so the point is more or less moot.

A way to test the damage of weapons is set FF to 1% and see what you can do, I as a level 5 medic can't even kill themselves with a point blank law blast. There is no way the LAW does 900 damage. Does more like 200-250.

Lol 6 lvl 5 sharpshooters with borderline aimbot skillz and the coordination of the Chinese Olympic synchronized diving team hitting him in the eye at once... If you can pull that off, you deserve an instant kill :D
Don't have to hit him in the "eye" to score a head shot. Patriarch have one of the biggest "head shots" zones of all zeds and it is located above the "neck bone" (ie pretty much his entire head).

In theory, 6 sharpshooters shooting one bolt each will do slightly more than the 23750 HP patriarch have on hard - thus instant killing him before he kneel. You would need a theoretical 9 xbow headshots before he heal to straight out kill him on suicidal.

Patriarch kneel the first time when he have currentHP=totalHP/1.25 - In a solo Hard game you will force him to kneel with one single headshot. "Eye" or not.

Numbers suggest that you need a bit more damage than a single headshot to force him to kneel the first time on suicidal though. Guess I have to verify in-game if aiming for his "eye" change this or not.

Now, don't quote me on this, but I gave it a shot with the flamethrower (considering it's insane rate of fire, and it's recoil, even if you can't see where you are specifically aiming, you're going to hit all over in a general area) and took him down to his knees before he could even start firing his minigun. The next time he was attempting to heal and bam, made him drop the syringe with a fiery fusillade to the face.

Of course, it's very difficult to discern if this is due to an eyeshot, or due to me being a level 5 firebug blasting him in the face, but he definitively got taken the feck down on norm.

He dropped for me as well, immediately after i shot him in the eye on suicidal with the crossbow.

What i wonder in that picture you posted there are multiple eye bones or whatever. What happens if the crossbows penetrative power is used and goes through every single eye bone. Is the damage then the same, or will it hit him like 5 times in the eye then.

Were you solo? (You only need 800 damage done to bring him to his knees if you are playing solo at normal).

Nope, full game.

That's not to say the other players weren't contributing either, but no one else had a hunting shottie, and no one else had their perks above 3 if I do recall...

It was on office, and after he jumped out of the window to heal, another bug (lower than 3) went out and started blastin em, he got killed in turn by a burst, so I headed to the window and started laying down some fire after that. This was the pat's last heal methinks, and he went down in probably....5 seconds or so therafter?

So blastin him in the head from three stories up...and in the general face area from a few feet away in the hall both seemed to take him down really damn quick.
