Seems to me that such people pretty much define themselves by the buttons they push in normal people.
One thing they would hate more than anything else - and I know it is difficult to manage this, given the feelings they inspire - absolute indifference. If people treated them with a "Yeah, whatever" attitude they would quickly change their tune.
I am not advocating doing that with all extremists, mind, but in the case of people like this it's the only response guranteed to make them go away and the sick fruit of their ideas wither on the vine, in my opinion.
