[Crash] Software Rendering, I read the FAQ

Hey,

I have a friend with fairly old hardware who was interested in playing with me so I figured I'd give Software Rendering a look and see if it was playable.

Software Rendering crashes with the Microsoft Visual Studios run-time error, and I read the FAQ with the "FIX".

However, the "FIX" entails removing your configuration files setting the renderer to default (Direct3D).

This does not solve the problem or explain why Software Rendering is crashing.

Some information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I don't think the software renderer is supported.
The software renderer uses the cpu to do the job of the graphics card and if he has hardware so old that he can't use his graphics card (Geforce 2 upwards should do, as far as I know. It won't play the game well, but it should play the game) his cpu is definately not up to the task as it's taxed much more heavily than it would be with a direct3d renderer. And RO is a very cpu hungry game to begin with.

Can you post the (approximate) specs of your friend's pc?
