Hi folks.

I'm deputy lead tester for DH and have been asked to give feedback on the arrival of the first patch.
This will be released in the next couple of days. There is one small problem however. Our coder has worked every night this week, since coming back from holiday, and has managed, with help from another coder, to drastically reduce the karma crash to desktop. This crash occurs when the game tries to find points of the karma, when it can’t; the ragdoll fails and takes out any player within viewing distance of the ragdoll.
As you have now noticed, he hasn't, up to this time, managed to squash the bug completely but they are still working long hours to try and resolve this issue. In the meantime, however, they will release a patch with this 'reduced' CTD and fixes to maps etc. The content will be as follows

1. New karma files to reduce the CTD, this will be replaced as soon as the bug gets completely eradicated. In testing we managed times of over one hour without a crash on Carentan Causeway, we didn't however manage to test on servers with a large number of players, so feedback would be very appreciated in the Bugs forum of Darkest Hour.

2. New sounds for all Allied weapons and tanks. Some new German sounds, Mg42, Fg42 and a few new tank sounds. We have now managed to get on board someone who produces sounds; these will continue to be refined as time goes on. Hopefully you will enjoy these new weapon/ambient sounds.

3. Map fixes on the following maps

Cagny: This map has been reworked to reduce the spawn killing; also the map is now infantry support. This is to reflect the real Operation Goodwood, in which various units were involved in try to capture Bourguebus Ridge.
Whact am Rhein: Trees are now fixed, allowing the tanks to enter and hide, this now also allows for shots to hit the targets through the same tree lines however. Load times reduced.
Hedgerow Hell: Optimized and added spawn protection for Allies
Brecourt: Last objective fixed, spawn points reworked
Merville Battery: Last objective fixed, spawn points reworked
St Lo, City: Reworks as per request from forums, some optimizing
Port-en-Bessin: Reworked spawn positons/objective positions, mades changes as requested on Forums.

Further work is ongoing with regards to tank code and penetration values, for instance
1. Reducing the loading time of the Sherman Firefly
2. Correcting the penetration values of the 17lbr found on the Achillies and Firefly {currently it is under powered}
3. Increasing the loading time of the Achilles to a more realistic level
4. Reducing the penetration value of the M10

Further maps are in the works; Le Mesinil Patry will be a tank only map and is very large, allowing for some true tank combat techniques to be utilized. St Lo Bridge Assault is shaping up very well and will be getting tested as soon as the CTD bug has been resolved

As you can see the team is working long hours to try and solve the problems and to increase your play experiences of DH, we felt it better to release a partial fix and other content to show we are committed to giving you a quality product, while we continue to hunt down and fix this GPF bug.

Please watch this space for more details and when and where to download the patch.

Again thank you from the team for being patient while we track down and fix the GPF bug.

Excellent news :D
I know what it's like to be lead tester so I somewhat feel with your current efforts. Seems like you guyz are still short of 30 or more testers. I suggest you start looking for them right now. You really need a filled test-server.
Don't dismiss the inactive testers, if some of them still show up then every player is valuable.

Good luck !

Monk.

ps coders from MN and CC : help them out if possible ;)
