Cute baby.:)

I vote for Mamayev Kurgan; it's about time someone did that one.

When I was helping Divine Hammer a bit with researching Pavlov's House, I came across some website information that talked about that Mamayev Kurgan.

I'm sure the same unit that Yakov Pavlov was in fought sometime in part of the battle; and I also think the same German Army battalion, the 275th, fought sometime there as well.

So, if you chose to do that, if you'd like me to, I could send you the web addresses I found and a little more information. Just PM me here.

The information is by no means comprehensive, but it should get you started with the research.

There was 30 KV's on a largest russian counter attack and the 24th Pz division was supporting the defending Infantry Division, but it depends on which day or which attack is done, if there is tanks it be only 1 or 2 a side due to the fact of terrain and it was a heavily populated infantry battle.

And tanks would find it very difficult to fight on, although the way I wish this to be done is do the terrain first, get people to plan defences and plan the objectives and for me to fit in with the historical forces. Bit of a group effort.

Need more votes people so far it is

Mamayev Kurga gets my vote too. This looks like an intense infantry only map. My suggestion is to have the objectives be able to trade hands repeatedly and I believe it's the Bashovka map that awards the victory to the side that held the objectives the longest during the map duration. To simulate the back and forth of the hill changing hands so many times, maybe on this map you don't change spawn points and keep them in the same positions. So, if you include arty, there is a real possibility of TK's since there may not be anyway to know who is on the hill! Leshnev was conceived to be primarily a tank map with infantry as a secondary support unit, yet somehow introduce the speed and intensity of the infantry maps by spawning the tanks closer to each other so you don't have to drive over such a bloody long distance! :) Your criteria of 1km by 1km fits nicely here and I did go back and look at Leshnev and agree it should be 2km by 2km to work at all. For Dvini, I found the church on Goolge Earth your coordinates listed. There were two photographs of the Catholic church there that could be modeled. What I couldn't quite understand is why the German defensive position was picked at this location. It looks like they used the forest just north of the river to be the defensive point with the river securing their right flank and then be able to cover the two roads that become one road just north of the forest. Then moving east there is the church you discussed, and finally a wierd building with a outlyer buidlings and strange roadways/pavement. Is this possibly a horse farm? If I was Soviet commander planning this advance, I have no idea what to do. Nothing but open, flat terrain. Flat roadway, and no cover in the farm lands. German defense would be rock solid is my guess and this map may turn into a one-sided bloodbath map unless you had a plan to give the Soviets a shot at getting to the church before being pulverized!

Well is looks like mamaev will win unless there is late rush.

Thoughts on Tanks: I reviewed the battle information although there was a german counter attack with tanks, the map doesn't really lend itself to tank combat. So Infantry Only map

Thoughts on Artillery: a Mortar Barrage was in progress as the Guards Regiment was assaulting up the north eastern face. So I am think something like Baskan Valley where these is various artillery rounds exploding on the hill.

Thoughts on Size: I have selected a portion where a battalion of the regiment would of fought up the north eastern side, the width would be about 200 metres wide and 600 metres from start to end, you be suprised how big it is. Like most of my other maps tactics and supression will be the order of the day and not l33t skills.
